The only ones that come out ahead on the deal are the lifers/HCE. The new hires were fooled into thinking they were beneficiaries of it as well. Little do they realize, new hires could be the ones who suffer the most from it if they get stuck here. They already had the quick upgrade coming, they have a long road ahead to see the retirement improvements, and they just locked themselves into 5 years of no raises at a time when they have the most leverage.
For how smart you have to be in some aspects of this career, pilots are really dumb.

I would even say that the "don't get much" category extends from 1-12 years. The 1-3 years don't get much either because they already had a quick upgrade coming their way. The 100 airplanes are rumor until they happen (there was nothing in the pay negotiations that said it was contingent on getting new airplanes), and not everyone has shiny jet syndrome and cares which one they fly.

Air Midwest? SkyWest is going to get back in the turboprop business to open a 1900 shop?

That's what I was saying (hoping) for months as I was approaching my R-ATP and was starting to apply, but it never happened.
Skywest had always been my number one choice. I even interviewed and got a CJO from them. But I called them a couple weeks ago to tell them I went in a different direction and accepted a position at a different Regional. I will be going to a Regional where I will still get the base I want, fly the 175 right away (I know, shiny jet syndrome, but i honestly would have went to SKW and fly the 200 or 145 if they had pay that was comparable to other Regionals) , and get higher hourly pay and signing bonus.
I've been following Regional discussions on this message board for over a year and it is threads like this that helped me make a better decision (I think). So I guess thanks is in order? Who knows, maybe in a couple years I will regret not going to Skywest. But with all the information I was able to gather, it was clear that there were better options than Skywest right now.

Being based where you want to be is huge. Getting higher pay rates AND a bonus is even better. It's true that there is more to pay rates but if you have work rules that forces you to be productive, it's more than likely inversely proportional to QOL. The more people to go places that have good pay rates and good work rules (like AWAC), the more it puts upward pressure on all our wages.

The upgrade already hit 9 months. How much lower do we need it to go? Where is the announcement for these shiny jets you speak of? Signing a deal based on the promise of new flying is silly and short-sighted.
