Don't agree with that at all. If someone has an employee number, is working for the company they should get a vote. Kind of insulting if you ask me, assuming all new hires are a bunch of dopes who have not a clue. I would guarantee there are people with YEARS under their belt who vote and have zero clue of whats going on.

Everybody else does it that way, and so did SKW until SAPA and the company pushed through this change without a vote by the rest of us.
But if you fly a guppy you should already know this, right?

I think all the guys in my new hire class voted 'yes' because SAPA came into class and gave a big song and dance about upgrades and basically said 'you'll be doing the right thing by voting yes...' When you're new to a company without a lot of first hand knowledge or access to other points of view, and the pres of SAPA says 'vote yes,' you vote 'yes.' We weren't aware of selling out our fellow pilots. With the benefit of hindsight, I probably wouldn't have voted at all.
If/when I go elsewhere, I will not expect or feel that I have a right to vote while still on probation.

So how would you suggest to prevent this type of scenario?......
I would rather see people who come from other carriers not be able to vote in their first year at Skywest than allow everyone to. When you do that you put your fate in the hands of people who know nothing about the industry. Their votes might as well be cast by management themselves because they are all told which way they need to vote from day one.
