We weren't aware of selling out our fellow pilots. With the benefit of hindsight, I probably wouldn't have voted at all.
I wish new hires wouldn't be able to vote. Not because I don't think their opinion matters, but as you have said, I don't feel that they have a good enough pulse on what is important and whether or not they are being taken advantage of.

This is exactly why probationary pilots cannot vote at ALPA carriers. And also why the company made new hires eligible to vote the last time around here.

What good is having a choice when you have no clue how your choice affects you?
Admitted from the previous post, a new hire who wishes in hindsight that he hadn't voted because he didn't fully understand it.

Same reason you need to be 18 to vote in this country. A human being is a human being regardless of date of birth, right?
Though that is true, a four year old might not have a deep enough understanding of the ramifications of their choice to make an informed decision.

If a person of authority speaks in the four year old's new hire class, they might be able to easily trick them with toys, candy, or a 3% pay cut.

Not really. That's essentially what happened. Both cases should have restrictions on when they should be allowed to vote.

Does any one know if SkyWest will have a sign on bonus in the future?

Currently there's a sign on bonus only for people that are currently 121/135 employed, or have a turbine type rating over 12,500 or certain military. $7500 I believe.

Maybe after they get a year's worth of trips under their belt so they can judge for themselves areas in the contract that are lacking? Something tells me a big-eyed new hire that has been fed Skywest flavored Kool-Aid for 3 months may struggle to generate an objective decision on their future. This is ESPECIALLY true when you start saying the word upgrades and growth.
