Me too. We need to get the aviation "experts" on the news to relay this information. Most people aren't aware just how much them grabbing their bag delays the evacuation or the fact that their bag could puncture the slide. Maybe this should be included in the safety video, but that likely wouldn't make the video fun, upbeat, and social media friendly.

I'm glad they got stopped, a punctured fuel tank in the air...Well, you might not be bending it around for very long.

The overhead bins could be modified with remote-actuated locks which engaged for T/O and LDG, and released only by the pilots once you're airborne or at the gate. More weight and cost though, so somebody will probably have to die first.

And let's not forget about those pesky emergency equipment stashes that exist in overhead bins. It would be completely unnecessary.

Wow. That was a hot fire! Melted the wing. I fly them, not fix them.... but it doesn't look repairable to me - at least cost effectively so.

They probably shouldn't lock those bins.

Locking the bins would delay the evacuation even more. You'd have people standing there fighting with the latches wondering why it won't open.

I'm sure you and others are correct. People are stupid.

I believe he was referring to the locked emergency equipment overhead bins.
