One level of safety now.
Be careful where this slogan is headed. The FAA is under intense scrutiny to regulate commuting as well as the cargo carve out. This one level of safety argument applies to both topics. If the PAX guys can't do it, neither should cargo. And, if the Company can't legally schedule that DH, then the pilots should not legally be allowed to do it either. As everyone on this forum knows, commuting is huge source of fatigue in the airline business, and it WAS at the core of fatigue in the Colgan Accident.

We need to very clear in that FATIGUE is the problem, not commuting. Commuting may feed into fatigue, but so do a number of other things that are on par with commuting in that respect.

Upon meeting the CAPT at the folder prior to an 8+ hour flight recently, the conversation made it's way to "how much sleep did you get?" His answer was about an hour or so. I later found out that he lived in domicile. How would the FAA,NTSB, CBA or any other entity regulate honey do's, soccer games, lawn care, golf, etc. that often occur in domicile prior to show. Check into hotel MEM 8 hours prior to show? IDK.

Does anyone know how the removal of the cargo cutout would effect staffing numbers? (FDX and UPS)

This is a good question and one which is subject to much popular myth. I invite anyone to show us some actual numbers, but UPS/FDX already have hour limits in place that far exceed FAR requirements and the impact would be minimal as it would be with a few higher end foreign carriers.

The primary impact would be on the work rules of ACMI carriers.

But they also lack many protections that come into play with the new rules. Specifically, multi leg...long duty day...flying on the back side of the clock. A 12 hour duty day with four legs that span 6pm to 6 am is difficult to say the least!

Maybe you should change your "callsign" to Skeeter?
