I'd opt out.... Sorry we will agree to disagree. It's a great job to walk away and no injuries. A hell of a job. But I know mybl companies FOM would leave me out to dry on this if the company wanted too..... I'm slightly cautious I suppose until pilot error or anything else can possibly come back at me is ruled out... again I agree to disagree with you.

I'm not sure about this being normal either. ... Did Sully pose afterwards on a wing? Did the DAL underwear bomber pilots pose after that incident?

I heard he got one of the mains down, but couldn't get the other, so he pulled all the gear up and did a belly landing. Is that true? If so, is that normal? Just asking.

I don't think you'd ever call it normal, but it's long been considered the best option for a mid- or high-wing airplane with wing-attached landing gear. Consider the geometry of the DH8's gear and it's easy to understand why.

Follow the checklist. In some airplanes, yes it is SOP.

All gear up maximizes control and minimizes damage. Looks like the props didn't get damaged, so no engine damage.

FWIW, the first Dash on the property had a problem during acceptance testing. The performance data from DH was all computer generated and buggered up; while doing flight testing with the Fed's onboard, they had a gear failure and could not get any of the gear to extend. The alternate extension would not work either despite one of the guys hanging on the handle with all his weight.

They decided to fly to Canada to belly land at the factory. Enroute, they came up with the idea to electrically depower everything, and it worked. They got the gear down and returned to Stankwell Falls (SBY).

Turned out that the plane was on the production line during the strike at DH and was finished by managers. The safety pin installed in the emergency release during the build had never been removed during the final finish up prior to delivery.

They've only had one other gear up I know of. A BE-99 from BWI to SHD blew a hydraulic line on the up side of the LMG actuator and they bellied it in the Valley. Local news got a really sweet pic of them feathering just as they crossed the threshold.

Kudo's to the crew for outstanding work!
