Near Catastrophe German C-160

It looks bad enough in the video you posted, but it looked like they clipped a dirt berm. The photos you posted show just how close they came to really turning this into a mishap.
Do oyu know any other details of the incident? With all the people watching, was it part of an airshow demo for instance, just a 'watch this' moment during a fly-in, etc...?

"Near catastrophe in the last flight of a German military aircraft
On the airfield Ballenstedt in Saxony-Anhalt came on Tuesday nearly a fatal accident. Nearly 1,000 people had, according to a report in the "Bild" newspaper gathered to the arrival of a decommissioned by the army transport aircraft of the type C-160 Transall attend, which was intended for the air museum Wernigerode. The aircraft touched down at about 11 clock on the landing, however, the approach became obviously too low. Shortly after the twin-engine transport aircraft touched down first with the main landing gear on a road that runs across the runway. Finally, the pilot still managed to maneuver their aircraft on the runway and there to a standstill, however, show photos that were published of "image" as well as a video that the machine missed some onlookers by only a few meters."

Here's how it's done: EAA's Coverage of the 2010 Valdez STOL Competition - YouTube
The first part is take offs, but skip ahead to about 54 seconds for the landings.

One thing for sure is that the pilot (and crew) didn't "manage" anything during the approach or the botched landing.

Speaking of VASI....
My UPT T-38 formation cross-country. We're both holding #1 for takeoff and the student in the other aircraft is watching two aircraft with a couple of miles spacing on final. (heard this in the debrief when we landed)
He happens to look over at the VASI which is understandably red/red and says to his IP over the intercom:
"Wow, that first guy on final is low, look at the VASI!"
His amazing brain keeps churning now as he watches them approach and continues to impress with:
"How does the VASI know when to stop working for the first guy and start working for the next guy on final?"

He did graduate. Went to an OV-10 and then on to an F-16.
I just remembered another from that trip. The same guy is excessively using "Wilco" during his communications with ATC. In base ops after we land, his IP asks, "Do you even know what Wilco means?"
"Yes sir, It means Will Copy!"

He must have missed that in the firehose stream. I guess it's more important that he could use it than know exactly how it did its magic.

Glad he made it.
