US Air crash

I was about that seniority and that's not quite right, but close. He could have been a junior F28 captain even in CLT, and later captain on MetroJet (B737-200), and also PHL (and DCA fior a VERY short time) mainline B737-3/400. He never would have held a line and would have been miserable commuting to reserve. Trust me, I know.

From a CNN article:
Minutes later, at 3:33 p.m., a woman called 911 and reported seeing the plane in the water.
"A plane has just crashed into the Hudson River," she told an operator. "A US Air big DC-9 or -10 has crashed into the Hudson River. ... Oh, my gosh!"
A big DC-9 or 10. Shows how ignorant the public is. They will never understand anything in this business other than finding cheap airfares.
On another note, I praise the Captain of that flight. But where is the credit for the FO and flight attendants? The media doesn't even acknowledge them. They all were instrumental in the outcome. The Captain would have never been able to do that by himself. Again, public ignorance in thinking that only the captain flies the airplane and the FO is just a button pusher.

The whole crew has gotten all kinds of praise from the media and all over these forums. But face it...the Captain made the COMMAND decisions that day. Had he decided to try and make TEB and failed, what would you all say then. I bet it would have been " the Captain made a bad decision, he should have ditched in the river".
Everybody did their job that day the way we all train for throughout our flying carreers. The Captain was a Captain that day and that is why he gets the BIG BUCK$! I hope he is flying for 6 or 7 more more years.

Good Read indeed. Now, if they would only listen.

Aside from gold keys to the city and statues, how about this: after they raise the plane and the NTSB releases it (to the insurance co...?) I think it would be really to put it on display at the Intrepid museum as the centerpiece of an exhibit. This occurred to me watching the USCG loop as they drifted past the Concorde a couple minutes after ditching. Wonder what that would cost, new A-320 price minus the cost to restore it to flying condition?
Related question - if this plane flies again, would you consider it a lucky rabbit's foot, or a cat with 8 lives used up??

I heard one network interviewed a gentleman who was in a hospital bed. He said after getting off the plane, he was talking to the F/O, who asked how he was, and the gentleman said he was very cold. The F/O took his shirt off and gave it to him. They showed the shirt, epaulets and all. Commendable isn't strong enough of a word to describe this crew. They did an absolutely awesome job.
