US Air crash
#331
I think it should be pointed out that since it's a US Airways crew we are talking about, an FO on the 320 there more than likely was a captain on that airplane for years until 9/11.
That's my guess. (And I'm also guessing it was an "East" crew because they were going to CLT.) Any East guys out there to confirm?
My point is that that experience is what the captain would have considered in making the decision.

Just for point of clarification....
N106US is an east bus. 1549 is an east flight number. West doesn't use four digit flight numbers. Also, the east buses are equipped with the CFMs, not the v2500s.
So yes, east equipment, east crew.

I remember showing up for a flight in Pilot Training and after my pre-brief my instructor asked,"If I told you that you were going to crash, burn and die today after takeoff, would you prepare any differently?" After reliving my entire prebrief in two seconds and not knowing what part he was referring to, I stared at my feet and prepared for the "instruction". After hearing crickets for a bit, It dawned on me that it was a Rhetorical question. i.e. your gambling with your life if you answer "yes". Given the circumstances as we know them, Sully and CREW answered an emphatic "NO" yesterday! True Professionalism by whole crew!
What were those memory items again?

Again great work by all on board: flight deck, cabin crew, and the non-revs who assisted.
And nice work by the boat captains as well: first vessel there in THREE MINUTES. Three vessels there in six minutes. Holding station on a drifting vessel (plane) aint easy!

Turns out I went through DC9 transition with the f/o back in 1991 ... the happy ending doesn't surprise me at all.

Great job once again to ALL the crew!!!
Any word on if other parts of the jet were hit by the birds besides the engines? Leading edge of the wing or tail? If so, I wonder how much it affected the glide?
