US Air crash

I'm not an Airbus guy, but here is what the Ditching Swtich on the MD-11 does:
When ON, the DITCHING switch,
• Inhibits GPWS.
• Maintains exiting cabin altitude
• Shuts off packs at 2500 feet radio height or when cabin differential
pressure is less than 0.5 psi.
• Closes avionics shutoff valve.
• Closes ram air door (if open).
• Closes outflow valve.
I bet the Airbus performs these and/or similar functions!

Fantistic Job!
All of the stars were aligned for these guys today. Great head work from the pilots but there are so many virables here that gave it a happy ending. Had the weather been woxof or the the bird strike happened at rotation or even night time for that matter,....I don't even want to think about it.
Yesterday a lot of people would have said that these guys (all of us included) were nothing but "over-paid bus drivers". I hope this a dawn of a new day.
Once again, my congratulations to the Captain/ First Officer and Crew and a sincere Thank You to all of those who came to the rescue.

Nothing will change... the public have a very short memory. We'll go back to being "overpaid bus drivers" soon enough. Then they'll start complaining to us about how we caused them to miss their connection because of a weather divert. I hate being negative, but it's just reality. Let's enjoy it while we can and be glad we had a crew today who did a great job in getting everybody on the ground safely.

While driving into NYC tonight to start my rotation, 880am interviewed some workers who "heard" the bang overhead and then watched as the airplane continued its turn and descended into the water. One of the men claimed to have recorded it on his cell phone camera.
Has anyone seen any video? I know there's got to be video from security cameras.

And for those that hate MSNBC; through out all the coverage last night the only news media outlet I heard "pilotS" was on Countdown with K Obermann.
And to all my past FO's; thanks for keeping my a$$ safe and out of trouble
And to the rest of the media outlets and the traveling public; Since all that a "co-pilot" does is bring up and put down the gear and this "landing" didn't require any gear, I'm sure the "co-pilot" was looking out the window sightseeing and saying, " you know, Newark really isn't all that great up here either"
