I just got home from a Celine Dion concert. After she sang her first song, she spoke about the crash. She called the pilot a hero, and she said that with all the tragedy in the world today, that is nice when a miracle comes into our lives or the lives of others. Kudos to the entire flight crew on a job PERFECTLY done!!!

Or howabout hand flyin once in a while? Disconnect the autothrottles and fd and get a feel for how she handles. Most guys fly a lot of the climbout but wait til short final to hand fly the landing. I say turn off the automation once in a while and sharpen those skills! It's obvious both situations you mentioned were handled well by pilots with superior skills. Become a good stick by hand flying abd not letting the autopilot have all the fun. DC-9 drivers disregard!
