I'm guessing the article got the details of who pushed what all wrong. I doubt even the worst of "newer" breed of FO's would push the nose down when they wanted to climb.

1500 hours gets you at least that much...

Twice I've known low-time first officers to attempt to follow an errant flight director indication; once off the end of runway 33 in Anchorage, and the other in Bogota; in both circumstances, the flight director gave a full fly-down indication as the aircraft passed the departure end of the runway, and the first officer, as pilot flying, attempted to follow the flight director.

They say trust, but verify. I don't trust.

Just verify.

No idea about the SWA flight. Wasn't there, not enough information.

On the Guppster you don't follow the FD initially on a GA, you just pitch for 15*. Left arm forward, right arm back (FO side).

I guess anything's possible but that would be some remarkably bad airmanship.

I understand that; it's like just about every other Boeing. And most other equipment. In the past few years, I've seen two first officers who couldn't read and didn't know latitude/longitude. I take nothing for granted. I've seen and heard some ridiculously idiotic and mind-numbering stuff from a few captains and first officers over the years, but simply because a warm body made it to a 121 platform doesn't mean much.

In the post-pandemic rush to glory, many to whom I speak are observing that the quality of new hires has not followed an upward trend.

Every SWA pilot here has the details. That's how it got released to the news media since apparently some of us can't be trusted with safety sensitive info. I bet a shiny quarter that the company won't be so forthcoming in the future.
Things happen, hopefully we are smart enough to learn from them. I am sure the details will eventually come out on this one, but it won't be from me.

If this depiction is true, probably changed some seat cushions.

You need to hire some Delta PR personnel. They are much better at hiding things. Delta has had some terrible airmanship lately but managed to keep it out of the press or spin it to the good side!

Deets are on the street (original memo so it looks legit). Poop show.

Guess I gave "newer" FOs too much benefit of the doubt. Sheeesh.

What in this story would lead you to guess that?
