SwissAir cleared for takeoff on 4L, FOUR other jets cleared to cross 4L on a different freq.

That's nuts. Same error as Southwest-JetBlue the other day, just more airplanes involved. What's going on in ATC land lately? Stay alert out there folks.

Everyday is 'Let's talk as fast as we can on the radio Day' with controllers more and more it seems.

There is no need for it. I've noticed a marked increased in unnecessary comms, extraneous verbiage, and hurrying for no reason.

"Line up and wait Runway XX, traffic 3 mi final" ... also with departure traffic still on takeoff roll..."Negative, we'll continue holding short"

As opposed to the DCA/LGA and previous JFK (AA) incident, the SwissAir crew seems to catch the error FIRST, not a single supervisor (assumed) overriding the freq(s).

This is a reminder why we adhere to sterile cockpit rules. If these “near misses” continue, a disaster will likely occur. Please be vigilant out there.

Yup. I've known of a couple guys got fired for stuff on the CVR, and it was lengthy or angry diatribes in both cases. In one case the pilot (FO) did NOTHING wrong, the CA taxiied into something on his side and destroyed an engine. CA ultimately kept his job because he wasn't running his pie hole.

If the commentary had been like Sully's "Nice Sunrise", they would have been fine. Profanity filled rants about the company and managers haven't gone over well historically.

You never know when somebody else might screw up, or something might break, and create an incident.

Anecdotal/depends on the circumstances;

At a previous employer, a crew was holding while snow removal was going, for a rather extended period of time. Spent 45-60 minutes in the hold ranting about how much the company sucked, how much mangment sucked, specific names of the highest management mentioned, etc.

Landed, overan the runway and took it into the dirt.

BOTH kept their jobs.

Another had an incident with a controller, went to a hearing with the FAA, NTSB, etc. Full CVR was played from gate to shut down, CA/FO talked at lenght about all the nasty thoughts they had of the FA they were flying with. It was played/listened to in the hearing, BOTH kept their jobs, that CA has been at my shop since 2006. Neither of their careers impacted.
