Default MH-53E Lost

Not a good day to be flying over that terrain. Lost a friend years ago when his SH-60 iced up over the mountains coming back from NV.

Hoping they managed to set it down.

It's been located in snow. A lot of weather out there.

Seems to have unfortunate factors in common with the Kobe crash and the helicopter following I-15 towards Vegas.

Those can and do fly IFR, and can do it on goggles. Kind of doubt they would try to scud run given the known weather on that day.

E versions have anti-ice but there was some recent discussion in mil circles that the system is problematic.

Maybe they iced up and were down low following the freeway for performance reasons.
