One could argue that having a third, highly-vetted individual in the flight deck makes it even MORE secure.

If he lives in base and always plans to, getting rid of JS privileges would increase his seniority rapidly, since a significant % of airline pilots would have to find new jobs.
Would they walk off all at once? No. But you'd see a big exodus over about 24 months as folks dust off the resumes and non-pilot skills. Maybe 10% that would either have family circumstances or old enough and wealthy enough to just hang it up. The rest would have to move to base, although there might be some limited CBA accommodation for positive space commuting.
