Regardless, agreed it is a good thing.
You are correct. Problem is the 737's are over that seating capacity.. So the union says sorry no more RJ's

Not exactly. The 737-700 seats less than 120 (118 if I remember correctly), but UAL would have to have a new small narrow body order to trigger an increase in the scope clause. C-series and EMB 190 orders would fit this bill, not the 737 or A319 additions. This is definitely not a "problem", it's actually a very good thing.

Fewer RJs = more mainline jobs. You know the math by now.

They can easily get more seats on the 700 to circumvent the scope issue. Ours at Delta has 124 total in our 3 class layout. My guess is UAL has a mid-cabin closet unlike us.

Scope has nothing to do with how many seats are in the 737-700.

Key word is NEW aircraft. United must buy a NEW small narrow body aircraft that is currently NOT on the certificate.

United will get as many 175s as it wants. They just have to park CRJ 700s.

That seems to be the plan correct? Continue to shed 700s and replace them with 175s within current scope limits of course.

I know a couple of SkyWest 700s have already been shed. I don't know what the plan is, all I know is that scope is set and the 737s and 319s aren't going to change the numbers.
