This is an argument that people continually make, but I don't think that they understand what their own argument.
They may have 10,000 applicants, but all of the pilots that are qualified are flying elsewhere. If you seal from one pool to fill another, there will still be a shortage somewhere else.
There are more pilot jobs than there are pilots currently willing to work. Period. If they raise pay across the board, they may be able to attract more people to become pilots.
Currently, a pilot shortage exists at the regional level, as well as many part135 operators, and some part 91 operators. The majors pay the most so they have the most number of people wanting to work for them. That doesn't mean that there isn't a shortage.

Would you pay an extra premium when purchasing a used car just so the dealership could give the salesman a raise? The major partner is under absolutely no obligation to save any regional. If we fold, the planes and flying will simply go to the other regionals that are circling the bleeding carcass. That's just business.

My question, how in the name of 6 lb., 8 oz. Sweet Baby Jesus has Bedford kept his job throughout all of this crap?

My friend, it's the same 10,000 guys with apps out at all of them and most WILL go to the first company that offers them a job. Divide 10,000 by 3 and that is the actual number they have to choose from. It's here and it's real.

TT gets it^^^^ not to mention that the generally accepted number of MANDATORY retirements by 2022 is 18,000 pilots, not including guys and gals who leave before 65, medical out or accounting for growth.

Plus when I went through ground school I would say that the medium age was late 30's so it's not exactly a bunch of young guys to fill spots for the long term.

And yet none of the big 4 are sending me letters or banging on my door asking me if I'd like to come to an interview or offering me a class date.
What I HAVE received are emails from various airlines advising me that they are flushing their resume' bank and telling me that I'll have to re-apply if I'm still interested in being CONSIDERED.

It would not be an EXTRA PREIMIUM. RAH wants what they are currently paying other Regionals. It would be a lot easier for them to give RAH a better deal. It would be a major cluster***K to switch to skywest and others. And they would be paying them just as much or more.
