Default Lateral jump to Republic

I need some honest opinions. No I don't care about the 170, no I don't care about upgrade, I'm specifically interested in going for the QOL-I want to live in PIT.

I'm currently working for a 121 carrier and am on endless reserve, and upwards of a 10 year upgrade, and no defined future for the company.

I feel that if I do end up having a long sit at a regional (trust me I'm applying to the majors), I may as well go somewhere where I can live in base, and be off reserve relatively quickly, and still upgrade in less than ten years...I've been at my company close to 3 years and still have another year or two of reserve and it's getting worse by the day.

So my question is, is republic as unstable as people are making it? I've been following the forums and I see a lot of mixed information.

Let me say one last time, I'm not jumping for any other reason, but I'm at the point I'm fed up with my QOL and am just looking for a little improvement. Don't hate! Smart move or completely stupid?

Why don't you look at Endeavor. They start you at $52k/year and every payscale went up $22K/year. They also will be growing and have hundreds already waiting to leave in guaranteed slots at Delta. Republic will continue to have staffing issues and you can almost guarantee yourself an equal, if not worse experience than you currently have.

If you want to avoid a headache filled career, you may want to consider giving up on PIT.

I'll add that I'm not from Endeavor, I just think they current pay and attrition far outweighs most other regionals. I would also consider Envoy, since I believe they will have the next best path to the majors when AA hiring goes into full gear. They have a true flow and I believe AA will use them in a similar fashion as Delta is doing with Endeavor.

Are you at Envoy by chance? Sure sounds like it by the description above. I'm at Envoy and am seriously looking at Compass and PDT.
PDT would be an easier commute, Compass just looks like it's a more stable place to be until I'm able to jump up to an LCC or major.

I would seriously make sure you know everything you can about RAH before making that move. Yes, they have a new contract and things seem better. However, IMHO they may file Chapter 11 and dump all the 145's since they can't staff. This would lead to longer and longer upgrades and downsizing.

Most junior FO in PIT for JAN16 is 11/19/2015 and there are 80 FOs based there. Very good chance of holding Republic PIT170 right away.

Republic would be a good move for you. The only downside is that we do no have flow like the wholly-owned airlines.

So you think the QOL will be better but what does this tell you?

Regional lateral moves seem like a mistake but you'll never know until it is too late.

Before you make the move, find a Republic Pilot (in person, at the airport) and ask them about how often Republic opens and closes bases. I have a friend that went from STL to GRR to PIT in just a matter of a few years. PIT has only been a base for Republic for a few years.

If QOL is important to you, this is well worth looking into.

I came to Republic with a backup plan in mind. I would recommend anyone considering moving to Republic do the same, since the company is testing the waters with a new pilot contract and very different cost structure.

That being said, what aviatormjc said is correct. PIT has been a very junior base at RAH. You will be a line holder relatively quickly there.
