Then why are we required to have FSM's and FOM's? I'll just have it all memorized...

I seriously think some of you think you should walk in and have your ATP and type handed to you.

All of that stuff belongs on a type ride its not just about the aircraft its about the regulations just as much if not more.

I agree with you. This is your profession you picked. There should never be "a captain question"... You're part of the crew.. Know it. A job as a pilot is extremely easy. Yes, I agree you cannot know everything, but you better know where to find it. If you are that worried about not knowing something. Pick up your book while you are flying ... read it. Also, if you have an ATP... you better know things to an ATP knowledge. You go to a PC, do they let you fly to Instrument PTS?? No they expect ATP standards. FO or Captain.. Know your stuff.

Seriously we spent 1, yes 1 minute, on limitations, and about 5-7 minutes on systems. About 2-3 minutes on walk around slides. Everything else was regulations. Takeoff alternates, cat 2, when can you use cat 2 mins for planning, 3585, alternates, CL65 flap restrictions and how they apply to every alternate, etc. Since we did not have to review my logbooks, I got grilled for about 3-3.5 hours on just about the entire FOM, and other 121 regulations. Luckily, I guess he like my answers, b.c. he said I did very well. I would hate to see what the full ATP rides were like, although at the same time, it would have been nice if he had to review my logbooks, that would have taken time away from him being able to ask about the 2 different types of ELT antenaes we have on the crj200 (yes that was seriously asked).

My point is, Pinnacle is not giving a consistent type ride to all applicants, and they are telling people to expect this and that on the type ride, and a lot of times guys/gals dont get this or that at all, you get something totally different; and to be honest a lot of stuff that has no place in type ride oral. Type ride pc's are supposed to be about the aircraft, not random regulations that are not taught, nor emphasized at all within their very own training department.
They are getting the same basic, standard questions. You passed, congrats.....ever think that the reason you got all those other questions is because you did so well on the "normal" questions that once you pass in the examiners mind, he picks your brain just to fill the 2 hours or, god forbid, teach you some stuff that might be nice to know? (stuff you WILL have to know on your CA oral in the future, like those accelerate/stop and climb segment thingies and flap AD's). 1 minute on limitations- so what, you either know how to memorize and recite them or you don't; rote memory doesn't show an understanding. That's the same way I conduct an oral......basic stuff that you are tested on, and if you are aceing that, dig deep and teach. Im surprised that so many who pass feel the need to complain that they were asked questions they didn't think they would need to know.

My point.....know the basics you'll do fine, if they pick your brain and you still pass even though they asked you the safety zone of the radar, types of ELT antennas or some other bs, so be it. Don't feel the need to scare the hell out of every one else about to take the oral because you did good and he was picking your brain...we have something like a 85-90% pass rate (or higher).

There have been classes as small as 4 new hires and as big as 31. The problem is that when a class is as big as 31, they don't have the sim availability to get everyone done about the same time.

That's a problem for the company, not the new hires. I don't know about you but I'd be glad when the company sends me home on a couple week paid vacation to wait for a sim slot.
