Interviews with both Republic and Eagle
#12
I have friends at both Eagle and Republic. Neither place is perfect, my friends at Eagle *****, my friends at Republic *****. Since you'll be commuting, go to the place that will make it easier on you and your wife. Remember this, no matter what any of these career regional capt/fo's say, they are both regional airlines. I've flown the E-170/190, it's an awesome aircraft, but it's far from a 747 or A-330 and so is the pay.

This question mainly depends on where you want to live.
Eagle is shrinking a bit right now, but high attrition is making it pretty un-noticable, unless your are on the ATR of course. (they say they are going to announce more larger aircraft flying for us as soon as the negotiations are done, and that should be shortly) Who knows if this is BS or not and how fast it will happen, or if it will be a net gain or a loss when all is said and done. We are losing 25 pilots/month right now, which is more than we've hired. If/when the flowthrough starts going again in a couple months, movement at Eagle will be a LOT faster than Republic.

tough call. RAH is the worst in terms of quality of life...you'll never know what to except year to year. Eagle...is just Eagle..you know what you're getting there. I think you're more likely to advance at RAH sooner, but you will pay a heavy price subjecting yourself to the chaos.
We all know the airplane doesnt matter, but....if you ask me, the 170 has a much better workload, scheduling, and comfort.

they won't say, all we ever hear is it's NDA info (non disclosure agreement).
All we have been told is there is a fleet plan for us, it should be released shortly, it includes more larger aircraft than we have now, not necessarily saying Eagle will be bigger, we may be smaller, but the planes may be bigger. To be honest, we really don't know anything, ALPA tells us nothing, company tells us nothing, and this could all be a giant load of crap.
I imagine they are back and forth between Embraer and Bombardier trying to get the best deal. Embraer they could be working on a swap, return some of ours in partial trade for 170's.. but the CRJ is already in or fleet so more 700's and some 900's would be easy.. so who knows.
Personally, I think we will get some bigger planes, but our overall fleet size will be smaller than it is now. I think we will be around 200-210 aircraft fleet within a few years. (this is just my guess, I could be wrong, I hope I am wrong), but If you look at the furlough protection numbers in our contract.. that's what it works out to be. Currently we are projected to be at 222 at the end of 2013. Attrition to AA and other attrition "should" more than make up for this, but who knows..

there are a lot of variables...but RAH has 50+ planes coming, but the Eagle planes are just a rumor. RAH will be hard to stomach though...outstation basing, minimum days off, terribly inefficient scheduling, and lowest pay ever.

Having worked at BOTH companies, at this point in time, I would avoid both. Why you ask? Eagle, a few months ago, I would have said go there. They have good bases, a decent fleet, good pay. But now, Skywest is doing some of their flying, and with Republic getting E170s for American, it will hurt Eagle in the long run. As far as Republic, the contract sucks. We have the Teamsters, which after all these years, still can't get us a contract. So you are underpaid, and have a very low QOL, Pay, etc, compared to the rest of the industry. I would look at Skywest or Compass if I were you. Good luck.
Interview at both, for the experience, but I would not choose either one……..Dont let that signing bonus at Republic sway your decision either!
