So depending on where you are on the list and what is open, you might get what you want or not. I makes life on reserve a LITTLE better in that you might know what you are doing the next day and for commuters, that could be the difference of commuting in the day before or the day of.
If you dont want a trip (or don't get the one you want) you will get a call out period (Called a RAP) either between 4AM and 7PM or 10AM and 1AM. During that time you have 15 minutes to call CS back and a 2 hour callout to the airport. Calls go out in seniority order based on who can legally do the trip. Can be a blessing or a curse - you may be the most senior person on the list good for 4 days with 20 people below you, but if they are only good for 3 or less days and a 4 day trip pops up, it goes to you.
So in short, reserve you have a LITTLE bit of control (maybe just the illusion). It does work for those who want to fly or stay home, especially as you move up the list. I live in base and want to fly as little as possible so I choose RAPs, move my days so I'm never good for more than 2 or 3 days and let them know if they have commuters wanting overnights, take mine if I have one - gives the commuter a hotel and I get to go home.
Reserve is a game and a gamble. I've worked it really well sometimes and came out on top, other times Ive tried to work it and had it blow up in my face.

How are you the judge of other airlines training programs or any other profession training program. Have you worked at them all where you can say that Eagle is the hardest things one of all. Just like the ones I have been through they all have their ups and their downs. And yes, I know that they are not all fun and games. I don't need to be told that, again this is not my first time. I'd like to make an informed decision knowing what my life might be on reserve VS. training at the current moment. Now if eagle sent me a book and said study this and you have a 100 question test on the first day then I might ask a different question than what I asked in my OP. But maybe ill just sit in my room for the next month and teach myself all the wrong things instead of waiting until class? That seems like a bright idea.
Depends - one good thing about our reserve rules is we do have some semblance of control over what we do on reserve, subject to seniority. Specifically the proffering ability. Basically the day BEFORE a reserve day, you have the option to "proffer" for what you want to do the next day. You can look at the list of open trips and list them in the order you want any or all of them (or none). They between 2PM and 5PM they will assign the trips starting from the top of the reserve list, going down. There are time balancing issues now but those ONLY take effect after 75 hours.

How does my OP of asking about reserve turn into my Mom and Dad telling me to worry about getting good grades?

Good to know, Thanks!
Thank you for answering to my OP. A little different than what Im used too. What about airport ready? Is there rules with how long you sit airport ready and how many times you get it in a week?

It won't be any more than 8 hours. Two lucky folks get a ready line all month. 0530-130 and 2-10. If one gets called out they call up a RAP pilot to replace them. You could go months without doing it. Last month I was called in 4 times to sit ready, the frequency all depends on your seniority.

FeltF4, RJ Pilot probably thinks it is tough to get a Piper Cub off a 3000 ft strip. What he doesn't realize is that you have three times the experience he has and you are not remotely new to the game! Perhaps he was just hired from his C172 Pipeline gig, struggled through the training and now finds himself worthy of telling others how hard it is (or was for him)!!! Miss flying with you though!!!

I asked about this before and received no bites. It sounds like the contract is completed, can anyone confirm the starting numbers. I live near CMH and would like to know.

I know that Eagle and Skywest both have plenty of CMH overnights out of ORD. Both offer a better quality of life & paycheck.
