Will Republic Be Able To Get 500+ ??

the problem isnt just getting people to fill the seats the company cant even get the people through training. they dont have the resources to process that many pilots. The current wait for sim and IOE on the Q is over two months. Last summer a 170 captain bid was cancelled because of lack of sim time. The 170 is a popluar airplane around the world and there are not alot of available sims. The company was in discousion to send check airman to australia to get new hire/upgrades completed.

Much of this has to do with management's mantra of "do it as cheap as possible." Pilots are considered a cost and not an asset, so the company tries to get by with as few as possible- to varying success. At most airlines, reserves are supposed to be used sparsely and definitely not to cover open time flying. That's not the case at RAH. Reserves can fly just as much as lineholders. This isn't a good thing, because it leads to cancelled flights, delays, Captains sitting right seat, lineholders constantly being reassigned. It makes for a stressful environment, constantly struggling to just barely keep flights covered. This is the company's philosophy in just about every phase of their business (even mx parts).

RAH's pilot recruiter told me Monday that they are looking to hire 1,000 pilots this year.
He also stated that as of right now, they have plenty of applicants to chose from and are having no problems with no-shows to class.
No shortage, yet...

I bet they don't have 1,000 applicants to chose from. I can see the training department running into some real problems when JetBlue, United and U.S. Airways start snapping up thier checkairmen and sim instructors too.

If there's no shortage then why offer a 5K bonus?

I'm not sure many of RAHs checkairman have a desire to leave. Many are very senior, and will not leave, unless things get very bad. The few who are not cool-aid drinkers are probably on the Q, so that may cause some problems for them. The top 300 will not go anywhere! Also unless things have changed in the last few years, they use Flight Safety instructors for training, and company checkairman to check.

I was talking to a systems instructor at Republic and he said they need 20 to 30 per class... last class he taught 7 showed out of the 20 they expected... So I would say yes they do have a problem, even if ATP instructors are foolish enough to pay 60K to work there.
When you talk to a flight instructor they talk about which major they're gonna work for, you talk to a 6 regional FO and they talk about what they're gonna do after they quit flying.

Sounds like something is out of balance to me.
