Republic Airways as a New Hire

Do they not know what a hostile nest of vipers working at RAH is like?

While I was in upgrade recently with Mesa/175 at flight safety, I had this strong urge to walk into the S5 and YX classes and ask the new hires what they were doing - had they not read any of these forums?

They will all be whining in the right seat come May.

I'm a junior captain in EWR, who is trying to GTFO of this place. I think their plan will be to use the 145 early drawdown to staff the 175s at S5. We will see a huge displacement before the end of this year, which will cause the upgrade to increase significantly. If you do show up at S5, you will get zero sympathy from me! i fly mostly with new hires in EWR, and most are not happy after they get online. Many of our newhires are poor pilots, who are lucky to get a 121 job, which makes for exciting 4 days! I have no idea how they get pilots to show up for ground school.

Many of the Captains based in EWR are pretty poor captains, so it's a perfect match!
Makes you wonder how they ever got a 121 job!

Wonderful. Ill be EWR based soon. Most captains I fly with tend to think the company isn't that bad, but they've ALL been there 10+ years (how, don't ask me!). Even living in base and not having to commute, I don't think ill be at S5 past the summer. Ill take my chances with them coming after me for the training contract. No upgrades in sight, no new contract in sight, no flow...I regret the day I didn't listen to everyone on this forum that said don't come here.

The last decade didn't exactly have a lot of opportunities for a quick escape from regional purgatory. 9-11 and the raising of the retirement age stopped and greatly slowed hiring at career companies. There's an entire generation of pilots that got stuck at the regional level for 10+ years and are now saddled with the lifer stigma. Many folks are quick to judge and automatically assume there's "something wrong" with anyone who's been at a regional 10+ years.
