Real Deal on Republic Hiring
OK, so Republic is hiring. They are staffing the Q and "maybe" gearing up for some AA feed. APC shows that all new hires get a 5k bonus. Half at the midway point of training and the other half after completing training.
This can really be an indicator of what's going on in regards to the "pilot shortage." I notice that on APC, the interview gouge shows that you have two writtens to successfully complete. So, this is another block to "weed" out candidates.
If they are paying a 5k bonus and trying to weed out folks, how many applicants do they really have? If anyone who is in the know in the Republic hiring department, how difficult is it right now getting applicants and new hire bodies?
We'll know how much effect these new higher mins for applicants are having if they are having trouble filling classes.
Anyone on the inside have the info?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm not interested. I'm at Eagle and if I finally have enough here and can't move up, or to corporate, heck, even 135, I ain't moving. Not even to the "Southwest" of the regionals, Skywest. No more regional BS for me.
I was just trying to gauge the hiring over there. If they are truly having trouble trying to get a few in the door, that could be the indicator that things are going our "the pilots" way in terms of pilot supply.

I was furloughed from an ACMI and applied to RAH to get interview experience. Once interviewed, I found out I could live in base, so I thought maybe it won't be so bad. However, a few days before class, reality set in as my unemployment take-home pay beat Republic's take-home pay. (Republic's wouldn't have even made my mortgage) So I had to withdraw.
In retrospect, I am so glad that I did as other opportunities have presented themselves.

Those test are simple. If a person has trouble with the Wonderlic test then they should not go out without adult supervision. The ATP test was pretty basic. The only one I missed was about air traffic control. Imagine that!!

They're offering a 5k signing bonus to try and mitigate the fact that it is a terrible place to work. Kinda like putting lipstick on a pig. Their own pilots even put up a website telling people not to go there.
Oh, not to mention they fly 70 seaters for pennies on the dollar and have terrible work rules.
But, that doesn't matter because morons will still come in waves and apply there to just to fly an E-170 and "get their time and leave".

I'm not "in the know". But I can say they are filing most classes they advertise to the union. I've heard of some people quitting right before the checkride. I guess reasons are numerous. Some felt unprepared for the checkride. The training manager quit in early July and I've heard from some instructors that things are still in chaos. Also we've heard a few people quit when they found out how the company is operated and once they figured out they'd barely clear 20k net for the next 5+ years.
So, overall I'd say no, we aren't having a shortage of applicants. But our net change in pilots is about +10 in the last three months because we've lost about a pilot a day quitting this dump.

I hear from RAH folks on here that there a lot guys are leaving RAH, but most of friends tell me they are not moving up on the Seniority list much. Most of them are in the Nov 07 to March 08 groups. They are only moving up 5 to 15 a month at the most - not one a day like a lot of people talk about. That means the late 07 hires have at least another two to three years of swinging gear for the lifers.
With that said -- it is not that they are a happy 07 hire group, but there is simply no where to go except to leave the industry, and now they have five years invested.
I think the real issue over there is the top 500 lifers who are making $100K + per year, with great schedules, and are not planning to go anywhere until RAH is belly up. With 25% of your work force not willing to move on as the system was designed to do, attrition is going to be very slow.

The regional model is dead.
