What happened to the union putting a stop to the bonuses? How can the company give 1st year employees a bonus and not everyone else, especially after all the years you guys have been in contract negotiations?

I don't recall the justification, as I know they tried to stop the bonuses from being paid (this time around), but the company DID offer signing bonuses in the past for people already typed in the CRJ (and possibly the ERJ).

Past practice may have damned us in this case.

Before signing bonuses were offered this time around, the company tried to unilaterally impose higher FO payrates (for everyone), but the union put a stop to that since it opens the door for pay decreases without going through an LOA or CBA negotiation process.

Thanks. I was just curious more than anything else.

As I have mentioned previously, I would *think* that if the bonus payment for new hires is not governed under your current contract, that the payment could be grieved so it could be stopped. And I say stopped only because with as long as you guys have been negotiating your contract, it could be used as leverage to get a contract done. If the airline has difficulty filling F/O seats to the point they have to start parking jets, it will be a lot "cheaper" for them to negotiate and get a contract done rather than park jets and/or pay fines to their contractors for lack of performance.

When I was hired, I got the choice of all three certificates and picked YX because I live in DC. I got stuck in PIT for the first month and than DC after that. The class behind us, I believe everyone got their first choice of base assignment (including three to DCA).

I'm glad it's been working out for new hires, but I don't think prospects should count on this. All it takes is for a few big upgrade classes to suck up a disproportionate amount of senior FOs from one certificate, and then new hires loose their choice. This happened in 2006 and is the reason why so many people got assigned CHQ that year. The company will do whatever is in their best interest and could care less if you live in a base that is specific to one certificate. If you apply to RAH, at least consider the possibility of being assigned to a certificate without choice.

It is actually in the job description:

Accept that the Company will assign initial base according to the company's need and the seniority of the pilot in their initial training class.

From what I'm hearing they're going to have classes on every certificate through the end of the year.

also I wouldn't read too much into holding a line quickly. So much will change here if/when the CBA finally gets done that what is true today will not be much longer. Don't come here for a specific base, it will eventually close.

Does anybody on the inside at Republic have any real info on how much trouble they are having hiring? So far, they have cancelled the training contract for the E140 and Q AND lowered mins even though they know the FO's will need min 1500 by August 2013. This should indicate difficulties in getting bodies.

If so, this could bode well for all of us. Slow but sure signs of some type of "shortage" arriving.
