That sucks....how on earth did that get into your contract. I guess RAH wasn't that bad in some ways, but they did make up for it in other areas.
I do really believe that all of the "your airline is worse than mine" B.S. is just folks trying to feel better about their particular piece of the crap sandwich called regional airline....
I'm just glad I left the party.

many valid points, but are you a crew planner? your saying as if no 145 growth is possible, cause I heard recently from HQ that new 145 flying is in place (either UAL,or AA, possibly both, he kept it purposely vague) but holding out until the contract is ironed out. CHQ is massivly short staffed, as are S5 and RW. SDF will be around at least 5-8 years, and anyone coming to a regional now, will be gone before that with the coming mass attrition of retirements at the majors.

If you want SDF you will get it however and pay close attention here....
1. SDF is 145 flying which is GOING AWAY! Contracts start to expire this fall and the last one goes in 2016.
2. The only reason SDF is a base is because we have a MX hangar there. If RAH sells the hangar due to 145 flying being pulled down SDF will close.
3. With our 4+ year upgrade you MIGHT be able to not commute while you are an FO but I highly doubt SDF will be open when you make CA.
4. If you are junior while the 145 flying goes away you will probably be involuntarily displaced to Shuttle or Republic. (you will not have a choice which certificate or which base).
5. Right now there is not much hiring for CHQ becasue it is shrinking. Most of the hiring is for S5 and YX. You can ask in your interview and they will tell you what Cert you are being hired for, I did and got what I asked for had to wait for a month before I started training though.
6. You will not know your base until sim. Our company does not plan ahead which is should be painfully obvious if you have done your research on this company.
7. If you can handle IND then you will be happy becasue it will be open tell the day the company goes out of bussiness.
Good luck, DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU PICK ANY AIRLINE TO WORK FOR!!!

Some of the FO's from MKE are being displaced to SDF so who knows if you can get it right away. They are pretty short on FO's though they only have a few on reserve each month. I would at least go to the interview if you are offered one you might be able to get an idea of what certificate you will be on. I think for a while they were so desperate for people they were letting them choose what certificate they wanted. If nothing else you can get some interview experience.
Keep in mind the training contract too. If you get a base you want and it closes and you get displaced you will probably still be on the hook for it.

The Republic carriers have some bases that would work for me. (I know, they can change at the drop of a hat). Anyway, with the recent slamfest (justified as it may be) is there anything redeeming about Republic? Is there any part of working there that would be preferable to another regional?
Thanks,
Emma

They aren't going bankrupt this week. Honestly all the companies have good and bad points. The bottom line is getting a job, get your time, and get out.
I started this game a bit late so I'm a lifer. I wouldn't nessacarily recommend that.

Regarding the new 145 flying. A certain someone in HQ that one would assume to be in the know, has been throwing around this "new 145 flying" for the better part of 2 years now. Bottom line is he is full of it. His job is to be a mouth piece for the company and try to improve morale. Put zero stock in anything that comes out of his mouth.

Expressjet: hiring, people speculate they are going to acquire AMR flying.
Transtates: recalling & hiring, people speculate they are going to acquire AMR flying.
Ding ding ding. I think it's AMR stuff. Management has been extremely positive lately. When I was at school a couple weeks ago, they were almost giddy about the future of TSA. It was...interesting...to say the least.
Did hear today new hire class of 9 on April 16th...and they've only gotten a handful of the recalls to come back.

Pinnacle will shut down tomorrow and Eagle demise will happen faster than Comair! Until you see it with your eyes don't believe it. We hear all about this hiring and growth but other talk about all the attrition this places are seeing, something has to give.

You disputed my facts of contracts expiring starting in the fall with a rumor.
Until we have new flying we will lose 8 CO/UA 145s in Sep. 14 140s for AA in Jan. 9 145s for US in 2014 and 22 145s for DL in 2016.
CO/UA said they have to many 50 seaters. AA is bankruptcy looking to shed contracts and 50 seat flying. DL is aggresivly pulling 50 seaters from its operation. So excuse me if I don't see us signing to more 50 seat flying.
