Republic Hiring

I heard less than half of the latest new hire class of 18 showed up to class. That's cool. Ornstein always said as long as people keep showing up to class I'm paying them too much. I miss all my former co workers at S5 and RP but I don't miss that "job" one bit.
I left over a year ago in a fit of rage and have just now briefly considered flying again. Took me 12 months to get over it. All you youngins and anyone lookin for their first 121 gig please always bear in mind that your stock is going up, very slowly, weigh your options heavily when applying and interviewing. Plenty of greener pastures out there. Cheers.

I would say a furlough is unlikely here given S5 is where the biggest need for people has been and all the juniors seem to be going there. It would require a large displacement. This place is digging it's grave on training costs. The really need to put up a bid for chq Fo's to head to S5. Keep your eyes open for it.

I'm curious.., I assume you are on the F9 side of the fence. I sometimes ride in the F9 jumpseats and here this from the crews I'm with. Where you getting this information from. To be honest, the conversations I am involved when woriking (190 FO) is 99.999 percent contract. I haven't personally heard nor discussed you guys in months, nor heard anyone else ie: pilots so much as raise the topic of F9 since last October at least.
Again just wondering where you guys are hearing this from.

Sorry, I amended my sweeping comments two posts later. Thanks for the comment.

Got a buddy there who shared their hiring criteria with me. I'll summarize. you need 1000 points to get hired.
- pulse? 10 points
- doesn't need money and/or willingness to apply for food stamps? 10 points
- limited cranial capacity and/or college GPA below 2.0? 10 points
- less than one testicle? 10 points
- flying ability? 1 point
- zero integrity, easily manipulated, no regard for the profession? 960 points
hope that helps--good luck

Alright time to finally chime in here.
Look Republics management is embarassing, but my fellow pilots are the best in the industry in 5 years I might have a half dozen guys I truly do not like flying with, and the 170 is a great airplane. I have learned so much from the CAs I have flown with and they have shaped me into the pilot I'm going to be for the rest of my career.
There will be a new contract, whether it is good or bad remains to be seen. But, this pilot group will only vote for good.
With that in mind come here preparing for a strike and be pleasantly happy when we get a contract without having too.
Do not wait if this is what you want pull the trigger. All the guys out there saying wait till we get a new contract are hurting you. This industry is about seniority, and even though Republic wipes their @$$ with it, does not mean its worthless.
If you were hired in June of 2007 you would have 300 FOs senior to you and the junior CA hired in December 2006, and that is not including the Midwest furloughs. 6 Months seperates the two of you but you live completly different lives. Nearly 70 pilots seperate me and the guy who was hired 1 month before me. DO NOT WAIT figure out what you want and roll the dice. This industry is about guessing correctly, no one can see the future.
In the end we all love our job when we are in the air, so if this is what you want I look forward to seeing you in my right seat someday soon.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, and good luck.

I don't know whether or not you've made your decision but you should disregard silly posts like Purple's. Keep in mind that these forums are like a flame to a moth for all the malcontents in aviation. All the regionals are the same. The best advice I was ever given regarding aviation was apply to all, take every interview, choose the best one for you at the time, and never chase an upgrade from company to company. I occasionally fly with First Officers who have spent more time in the regionals than myself because they left a place, where they would now be a Captain, in hopes of upgrading here. The regionals aren't a bad place. Keep a good attitude and enjoy yourself as you build experience and seniority. The sooner you get on with one, the sooner you'll finally start making some money and saving for retirement. Good luck!

In case you forgot, ALL the Midwest pilots could have done that flying had they so chosen to accept the terms. They rolled the dice and declined. Their scope and contract didn't allow them to strike, which is the only legal way we could refuse the flying without getting fired. I don't know a single person who was excited about doing that flying. But it's outlandish for you to expect anyone to quit their job because YX didn't have better contractual protection.
Bottom line, they could be doing that flying now under our CBA with some of their furloughs recalled, which no doubt would have given them a drastically better outcome in the IMSL. Instead, they chose to all be furloughed, and a few are now trickling back and flying on our CBA, with severely watered down seniority.
I'd be ****ed at the council I received from ALPA.
