My fiancé and I are trying to plan a wedding, which I know will be difficult as a new hire, and we're targeting the end of 2022. Is there any preparation I should take now with my HR rep, or how would this work as it got closer to the time to have a solid week off without worries of bidding it? Anyone experience this for vacations that weren't really flexible? I'm coming in to all this as a former corporate guy so wanting to know the differences in how things like this are requested, if they even can be.
Thanks!
Thanks!

You earn in the neighborhood of a day a month when you start. It goes up a little every year you are there until it's 10 hours a month, a day being 4+12 so 2+days a month. That takes 16 years to get to that level.
Day one is 4.25 days a month.
I didn't take a "vacation" my first two years and was able to schedule around anything I needed off for. You can carry 1.5X what you can accrue per year, so it changes a little every year. If you have more than that, they simply pay you for it automatically.

So I take it you could bid for a non vacation period of time off, and then can you add some of your vacation days onto that? So maybe you have a 3 day gap in work then you add 3 vacation days totaling 6 days off? Or no

Vacation requests PDO’s are done the month prior. You wouldn’t have your schedule yet. You can use PDO’s with GDO’s to get days off you need.
