Default Regional Vaccination Rwquirements

There is a ton in the news about Legacy Airlines requiring vaccinations. I was jist wondering if American and United are extending their vaccination requirements to their regional lift partners. Has Republic put a vaccine mandate in place yet? Does anyone know about other Regionals requiring it?

We're all in wait and see mode. Nothing official has been announced, anywhere to the best of my knowledge.

I suspect the regionals know that they can't impose a mandate because it will be a bloodbath of resignations.

That and there will never be a legally binding Government mandate that will force companies to get vaccinated.

Just companies that jump the gun even before the law is written and shut down by the courts.

No mandate at Republic, and I’m not anticipating one, personally. However, our trips can be impacted by vaccination status - if the destination (Canada) requires one for entry. That’s going to likely mess up some seniority bidding.

United has already said that they don’t have the authority to impose their policies on regional employees since they are not employed by UAL. They said that they were strongly encouraging their regional partners to adopt similar policies, what ever that means…

IANAL, but there's already Supreme Court precedent for upholding vaccine mandates. See Jacobson v. Massachusetts. If individuals can be compelled to get a vaccine, I see almost no chance a company that is making a vaccine a condition of employment would lose in court.

I didn’t say a company couldn’t do it. I said the Government won’t be able to force a company to mandate the vaccine. Those that have already made a mandate did so under threat of a government mandate or trying to stay ahead of the mandate that will never come.

Like you say, I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out. I think for better or for worse considering the airlines that operate for the CRAF federal contractors is a fairly sound argument, legally. But again, IANAL, so what I think doesn't carry much (any) weight. Both AA and WN have announced today they will comply with the Federal mandate and ignore the Abbott ban on mandates.

The government may not be able to enforce a vaccine mandate upon a company, but they can take their business elsewhere and airline management doesn’t want to give up that revenue. It’s simply cheaper to comply. It also eliminates scheduling complications resulting from unvaccinated crews.
