I wouldn’t say that it’s a bad thing. Nor have I got that vibe from reading these posts. But it appears to be more of a recruiting tool than anything else. I don’t think people already on property will benefit much unless money is freed up from streamlining training and associated costs for contract improvements. And because most regionals are scrambling to stay ahead of attrition any money saved will probably get thrown at new talent in the form of bonuses.
At least I'm not the only one (actually, the majority of the pilots I've talked to) that knows this does absolutely nothing for the current pilot group. And ask the FAs what they think about it. They take it as a huge slap in the face when the company can spend $200 million on a training center yet can't negotiate a good-faith contract.
But I'm sure Andy will come running in defense of his boi BB.

Don't be negative, Andy will come after you and reply with some garbage post that references Envoy.

Envoy has a base in Miami and is pumping out those eye candy dollar signs. Every LCC in the country is hiring at low mins. So what are you waiting for?

You hate it here, so why are you here? You live in or near Miami, and you hate Republic. So why do you work here? Why don’t you have the guts to answer that question?

Further, he was complaining about RPA - asking “why would anyone come here” before the training center was announced. He’s upset enough that RPA closed Miami that he’s willing to come on an open forum and ***** about it, but not man enough to make a change for himself.
Someone who wants to be miserable will simply find a way to be miserable. We’re talking about a guy who is fully capable of jumping ship to another carrier to be home based, but is choosing to stay here and cry instead.

A new training center has presumably been in the works for a while. He’s assuming, along with others, that the training center and new bonuses/pay are mutually exclusive, and that’s simply not true.

Well unless you’re the Federal Government you simply can’t print more money when you run low. There’s only so much in the operating budget. If you spend a big chunk on one thing, there’s less for other things. The gap between new talent and those that have been on property for several years is narrowing. And that’s because more is spent on recruiting in the form of bonuses.

Hate to break it to the doomsday people, but the money was budgeted as capital improvement in the balance sheet for years now and was never up for grabs for labor. The lease on Suite 300 at Purdue road is up in a few years and from what I heard it was not sustainable to stay and by no means the long-term vision of the company. At the end of the day, it's still a rentable office building and we need more than that just for an operations center let alone all the other departments it takes to run the airline. This move will only save the company money in the long run, stream line training and the product provided to crewmembers which benefits everyone. Carmel is a pretty nice area of Indy and the ride to/from IND will be annoying, but I'm sure the $$$ was right for them to select that land versus the original plan to build at the airport.
As someone who left in January RPA is miles ahead of many other operations, especially at the regional level. Trust the process, get your time, study hard, do well in your validation events, have fun, and move on. I miss how well s$%^ was put together at RPA and it could always be "better", but RPA was pretty dang good (minus all the base closures and questionable commuter policy). While it's tough to appreciate things when money is being sent to other places besides the contract, it beats the hell out of going bankrupt and everyone losing their jobs. This is a firm investment in the longevity of the company which should be a welcome sign to many.

Don't you know the crude, simplistic, smooth-brained way some here are looking at it is the only way? It's legitimately shocking how many people are incapable of approaching an issue with nuance, particularly in an industry that thrives in the shades between black and white.
Seriously, though, good post. It's not remotely inconsistent to believe Republic can be better while also believing that comparatively, we have it pretty good.

How dare you interject common sense and reasonableness into a conversation? There is no place for that, especially in an online forum.
