Amen. I don't think I'd ever move for a regional base unless no regional had one in my area. However, making the initial choice to apply only to regional airlines who had bases near me has worked out for me so far. (I realize that only means that I've been very lucky)

Because outside of SkyWest & Endeavor the alternatives in this industry are on life support.
I don’t want to fly a ****ty ragged out CRJ or alternatively, wait 4 years for a 175 upgrade to then make about 10% less than the other industry leaders.
If I get “stuck” here, I’ll be making around $200K as a CKA by the time I retire.
Our CBA is the best in the regional industry, and our pay is near the top.
We get flight benefits on 3 legacy carriers.
New hires aren’t having to wait 6 months to show up.
Our Chief Pilot is a bad ass.
Our CEO isn’t a woke virtue signaler.
Masks aren’t required in the training center.
I like our uniform.
Our Union brings pizza to the training center.
The TownPlace in Indianapolis is nice and the shuttle drivers smile when I tip them.
Any other questions, sweetheart?

I wouldn’t say Envoy or the other AA wholly owns is on life support and the rest of those items seem pretty standard for too tier places

The wholly owned airlines are primarily who I was referencing. The current model isn’t sustainable for American or anyone else. It’ll be changing pretty dramatically in the not too distant future, IMO.

uhhh... Correct. SkyWest and Republic aren’t going anywhere. Could shrink possibly, but not going anywhere. Wholly owned regionals (Endeavor, Envoy, Horizon, Piedmont, PSA) are going to benefit from their legacy parent companies throwing money at them to keep new hires coming through the door as contract regionals shrink. It’s why Mesa is getting into cargo on 737s and sending their CRJ900s to Europe. It’s why Air Wisconsin is adding fleet types (create potential for opportunity) while bringing on a cargo variant of the CRJ200. They see what’s coming.

I actually think it will be easier to get hired at a Major working for republic than other regionals, think about it like this. When they (AA) hire someone from a WO they have to dish out a massive bonus, makes more sense to hire someone from RPA for free. The big bonus is designed to keep their regionals staffed and pilots waiting for the flow.
