You can pick up time from open time from any base. If the trip is good enough you might want to commute in for it. I live between PHL and EWR, EWR based but have picked up trips out of PHL to make a couple extra bucks.

Highly unusual from my experience to switch brands while on a trip, usually only on a reassignment for irops or something similar. Not at all unusual to fly for all three during the month though, depending on base.
