Kinda disappointing to hear that they aren’t letting people base trade as often as they’d like but oh well.
Where did you hear that? Nobody is not letting people trade. You just need someone else to want to trade out in order to train in, or wait for an opening, and be senior to anybody else wanting to trade. If you are the only one, then you get it.

I’ve already started looking at regionals since they seem to all do hiring right at the CFI level through cadet programs etc. Republic seems like the best regional at the moment I’ve got a friend who’s an FO there that absolutely loves it and other friends in the Cadet program that have nothing but good things to say. The QOL, Pay, Equipment, etc. all seem worthwhile. My main goal is to go on and work for SWA. Any advice on republic? How long do people sit reserve? How likely is a move to SWA? What do these airlines look for in a candidate? How likely is it to get based at ORD? (Easiest commute for me). Thank you guys! Hope to hear your responses!

Southwest is in the top three for YX pilots who move on, so it’s certainly possible. I wouldn’t come to YX for the ORD base, because you will probably be disappointed. ORD has been reduced by over 60 percent in the last three years, and there hasn’t been a captain vacancy there in at least three years. You could hold FO, but the left seat probably would never happen. Maybe look at IND, because FEDEX can make commuting easier.

People are still changing bases like crazy. In the most recent new hire class, for example, 25 out of 36 people were assigned to PIT initially. All but 7 or 8 of those immediately moved to another base.

If you want ORD stay as far away from Republic as possible. Go to Envoy or Skywest.

EWR is also a really easy commute from me at TPA. Is EWR usually given after finishing training? Do you know how long guys usually spend on reserve there? Thanks for the insight!

Yes EWR is very junior for both seats. So if it’s an easy commute for you, sure. I personally wouldn’t handcuff myself to the NY market my entire regional career, it’s a nightmare even on good days. If Chicago is your easiest commute I would chose OO, our contract isn’t THAT much better than theirs that justifies a terrible commute you’ll be making a couple times a week. Remember, Chicago has American, United, Spirit, and the last resort Southwest to Midway. EWR you’re pretty much handcuffing yourself to United for a 1 leg commute (JB might do it?). Either way, make the right choice for you. But in my opinion the biggest quality of life factor is base/commute, everything else comes second.

You mentioned that SWA is one of the top three. Which one are the other two?

JetBlue, probably Spirit, and ACMI.

Also does anyone think a more commuter friendly contract is in store for the future (i.e. paid hotels or things of that nature)?

Lastly, would republic pay for me to park at DFW or do they only pay for parking in their bases? Feel free to pm me and thanks for the help!
Why not just go to Envoy or SkyWest if you live in the Metroplex? Commuting is miserable, if you go to Envoy you would have flow to AA.

And some of the worst work rules and pay in the industry. And there is zero sign that management is willing to change that nor the pilot union willing to make a hard push for improvement. I would not recommend anybody to Envoy right now. If you must have flow, go to PSA.
