Compass rumor again?

It can and has happened before. The ones that believe it can’t are kidding themselves.
As duramax said, YX and OO are in a very good strategic position by feeding multiple carriers and are likely to continue growing, whereas the others will consolidate or terminate. The WO concept doesn’t work in favor of the pilot group or long term stability of the company.

Nor does the standalone, name one regional (not Skywest) that has been around more than 15 years without bankruptcies/ consolidations/ name changes. As I recall YX was on that consolidation and bankruptcy list recently. The point here is everyone is arguing about the best regional - they are all regionals and all are disposable the moment it is in the best interest of the mainline partner(s). Nobody is safe at the regionals.
While I agree with you, you can’t cite the YX BK in the same category as the others.

I think the whole Compass rumor just lives on because those of us from the West coast dream of not commuting or living in a place where the highest terrain feature is a telephone poll.

Now in all fairness, Mount Mitchell ALMOST makes it to 6700 feet, but clearly, you don’t have to worry about anything on the order of the Olympics, the Cascades, the Wasatch, the Sierra Nevadas, or the Rockies out East. Except when you are commuting to work that is.

Actually, I believe Alaska avoided it but only because a mediator (Kasher) screwed over the pilot group so badly in a negotiation that the management no longer needed a bankruptcy to cut their labor costs in half.

Heck, Delta pilots lost their company pensions altogether in their bankruptcy, IIRC.

If you wanted a career in a nonvolatile industry you chose poorly.

Yet, everyone likes to use this against YX. Not one employee was affected and it’s evident that all three mainline partners aren’t very disappointed either. Call it what you want, it was a strategic business move that paid off tremendously for the group, the company AND mainline interests.

I don’t think anybody is bragging about anything, but you can’t say all regionals are equal. I do believe there are better, less risky carriers to choose from. Pilots are the same across the board, company’s differ.
