First Officer BASE DROPS- Initial and Monthly

This of course can all change in a moments notice, various no bids from people on military or medical leave, also depends what time of year you get hired. Now is a good time to get one because there will be more lines are awarded in summer so you will be on reserve a shorter period of time and potentially move up enough in seniority by the end of summer to continue holding a line.
As usual this is general information and disclaimer is this is the airline industry and everything near impossible to predict, we can only advise you of trends we are seeing... so who knows? It can all change overnight.
My advice is, plan on 12 months of reserve at PIT and if you get a line in a shorter period of time, celebrate and thats just gravy. Once you get in you can start seeing the published coversheets and movement to have a better idea of when you will have a line.
If you are close to the PIT airport, why not get paid to sit at home on reserve for a little while? Thats great QOL. I wouldn't want to commute even having a line.

The Miami flying itself is safe for at least the next two years. A bunch of Caribbean destinations were extended till end of 2019, late in the summer and there is no evidence of Envoy working towards EOW capabilities. However, like you said anything is possible and the base itself could close.
However, this thread is starting to stray off topic.

My recommendation to a new hire is to consider Envoy if your looking for an MIA base quick and if you have some 121 experience I would consider Atlas. Miami isn’t as senior for them.

As a MIA based fo, we are losing flying to Envoy. Not quickly, but I have noticed. I’ve been in Miami a year and been an FO for 3 years, many overnights I was doing before out of MIA, envoy crews are taking over...

Its true we are losing some flying for MIA, we are certainly not getting kicked out, Currently at about 60 lines, we'll retain about 50 lines. AA is very happy with out performance out of MIA and no other regional is extended over water certified. However, you are correct an FO wanting MIA is will be awarded it much quicker by going to envoy, new hires are looking at 2-3 years to get MIA right now.

People seem to come here and think that you will only be flying out of Base XXX, but that is just where you start and stop your trips. The pairings will take you throughout the entire system.
But once again, this thread needs to get back on topic...

I see the trend of new hires initially getting EWR/LGA to PIT/CMH or even ORD. I know commuting to ORD is hell but what about PIT/CMH from either ATL or Dallas area?
Just for the record - i'm more than 6 months out and i know commuting sucks and i shouldn't do it. Just considering all my options now. Thanks

Bottom line don’t come to Republic for a specific base, unless it’s northeast or outstation.
