Keep in mind that when bidding for a new base you're bidding 4 months out. I.e. the bid that closed today is for January awards. Someone in training now awarded the base they want for January will still be in the base they don't want for a few months.

Doesn't seem likely as the flying in that base has been lessening rather than increasing over the last couple of years. I would guess if there is improvement in the wait times at ORD it will be because of general movement and attrition rather than something at that base. Who knows, though; we had 12 FO vacancies there for January which hasn't happened in forever!

triandfly, thanks for the update. Really crossing my fingers for NYC, but I guess it doesn't look good. I'm starting Oct 12, so maybe Columbus and DC will fill up before then.
Anyone know what kind of time frame it takes to end up at your preferred base with a standing bid in (besides MIA)?

I spoke to one of the new Captains from the upgrade class today about this. He said it is hard to tell, as there is so much movement. Basically base sids as I understand it is for a 4 month period.
I recall someone said that many in the class ahaead of our is already transferring to other bases.
TriandFly has a friend in that class. TriandFly please fill this in.

Demand can change a lot. When I interviewed in April everyone was going to DC. Now DC hasn't been awarded since May and everyone was going to New York. Now the last 2 classes have been sent to CMH and ORD (traditionally one of the more senior bases). We had one guy transfer to MCI (one of if not the most senior base). We had 3 guys in class go to IND right away - another "super senior" base.
Point being things change. Just because a base is available now doesn't mean it will be hurting for people when it comes time for you to bid. The company staffs based on their needs.
