It's third or fourth most senior base. Which at RAH means you'll still get to it within a few months of finishing training/IOE, but it'll be awhile to hold a line there.

The outstation bases have early flights to hubs and late arrivals from hubs making the schedules tough to commute sometimes (5am show or 11pm arrival times means you have to spend the night in a crash pad if you are commuting). However, it all depends on what base you pick. You can hold basically any base within 6-10 months.
This is where the trip begins and ends? Why not just make them overnight trips late show early rise would suck, but just doesn't make much sense.

Outstations are often two leg commutes from anywhere except major hubs.

Because since we have maintenance bases in these locations (except MCI) they thought it necessary to create crew bases as well. There are a lot of pilots who live in these outstations or have moved to them. Lots of people are happy there and cost of living is much lower than a lot of hubs. I don't necessarily agree with the philosophy, but by nature of the hub and spoke system flights depart early and arrive late to the outstations. I commute to an outstation and bid top 25% seniority. 50% of my trips are commutable on both ends and the other 50% usually start between 0500-0700 and I'm typically done between noon and 1500 usually resulting in 2-3 hotel rooms per month.

If you aren't based there then it will either be a turn or an overnight. If you are based there then you are responsible for getting yourself to and from the base (early AM or late PM) which is where the commuters can get hosed.

Thanks
I'm sorry, but XJT doesn't hold a candle to RPA.

I highly recommend RAH. I'm not sure what pages you read in the RAH thread but I don't think anyone suggests expressjet over republic. They are a great pilot group who is having some really unfortunate stuff done to them by their parent company. Also, the overall consensus here online and from those who I talk to is that we at RAH are in a good position. Healthy staffing but a growing fleet, ownership by all 3 majors, and a pretty decent current contract. We're also not stuck with any out of favor aircraft. Upgrade will be under 3 years by the summer. I am on pace for upgrade just under 3 years now.

Things at republic are very different now than they were 2 years ago.

Yeah it sucks making well into the six figures with half the month off. The five weeks of paid vacation per year make me sad. And it really sucks flying first class anywhere in the world I want to see for a hundred bucks. The worst part is is the medical and dental insurance while so many are paying hundres per month out of their own pocket. I'm so upset at the thought of it all I'm going to open another beer and go back to shopping for another investment property.

I spent 9 years at RAH before moving on. If you're young (I was 22 when I got hired) and not anchored anywhere, I HIGHLY recommend moving to base. Treat it like an adventure.
