Default Thinking of getting back in the Fixed Wing ga

Hi all,

I got a WWYD employment question for everyone.

Was at a regional 2 years ago, had to leave due to just not enough $$$ to survive on, (was before all this 60K bonuses started). Ended up going to fly RW EMS to survive. Now I am rethinking getting back into the regionals.

Currency for fixed wing is just short of 2 years since I've flown, current in RW and instruments in RW. I have my ATP, 6300.0TT (3000.0+ FW), part 135/121 experience, (500.0 PIC 121, 1700.0 121 TT). No failure/FAA violations etc.. clean record. Military and civilian time, 90% of time is crew and turbine. Need to finish my 4 year degree.
Will have to commute from Arizona (PHX).

So my question is what regional to go to?

Considerations,
Commute
Upgrade
Getting recency then flow to Frontier/Allegiant or ???
Legacy without a 4yr Degree?

Thx in advance for replies.

SkyWest has a Phx base, it's somewhat senior and I'm unsure of its future maybe someone else can chime in. We did get more CRJ flying for American out of OrD and some of lax CRJ flying moved to phx as far as I know. Other than that SkyWest has a ton of bases pdx, sea, slc, lax, sfo , den, cos, ord, msp etc etc

I've looked at Skywest, but at their pay rate (37hr) unfortunately it's a no go right now. Same thing with Mesa at (22hr).

Most likey will be one of the WO's, just for stability. Also looking at GoJet/Trans, just for the commute to Den.

Maybe not the best option, but Great Lakes will hire you as a street captain:

$45/hr (will go up to $48/hr in September for DOS+3), plus $5000/year retention paid out $1250/qtr.
Frontier Flow.
Bases in PHX, LAX, and DEN.

AA WO. PDT for quick upgrade or Envoy for easier commute. Apply to other legacies and SWA.

Hey 77

Would think your times and tickets are good to go... Any where you go will be reserve and commuting on reserve will SUCK...

Not sure of your family status but may consider moving to your base... With your experience Envoy and maybe pickup a part time gig in the sim with FSI RW side or a USAR/Guard M-day position... Stay on the flush side cash wise... Flow as a insurance policy while you try the other main players...

The Fee For Departure Airlines are now only a passing thru place... Old place we tried to make it a career if one chose only to have the contract gutted in bankruptcy then shutdown...

Look at ALL options... Do what is best for you and your family and don't plan on staying at ANY Fee For Departure carrier one minute longer than needed!!!

I know new FO's at TSA are going to DEN, and they just announced some pretty decent bonuses for new hires as well, so you may want to pop into the TSA thread if you're willing to commute to DEN.

Depends on how risk adverse you are. If I was young and single, my decision would be different then if I was older with a family.

Someday the hiring boom will slow/end. Hopefully for all of us that is after we leave the regionals.

If the boom slows while you're at a regional that doesn't have a Phoenix base, you could be a commuter for a long time.

I was in a very similar position as you within the last year and so far I'm very happy with my choice.
