Easy. Base locations. Phoenix & Houston are yuge... I know a few Mesa pilots who have clean records, and took the easy interview and would be home based.

Phoenix & Huston are large major cities. Makes sense to me how they are still recruiting.

I was talking to a Mesa instructor today, sounds like they are cold calling guys with the time, a lot which who haven't been in the plane in many years. Just "giving em a shot". Most of which are guys who are making late in life career changes.

SKW had a 10months -1yr time frame at the time to get a base. I know 1 did not want to commute at all. Guys I knew got CJOs elsewhere including part 135. They took Mesa around the time when they were in negotiations with ALPA for QOL and pay increase. They thought Mesa Mgmt might pay up due to looming shortage & other regional's increasing pay. Back up plane was hang in there for 1yr & get a Free ATP before their written exam expired!

Hindsight 20/20 it's easy to Arm-chair quarterback. But people made decision to go to Mesa for various reasons (base location, quick upgrade, very easy interview, EJET/CRJ weighing more than 20 tons). Various reasons.

Probably around the 1200-1300 pilots in 2017.
So even though other companies are paying 50-60k SkyWest is still out hiring them. That's crazy

No one is paying $60K just yet. More like $51-57K.
