Serously... between people reading books, playing video black jack, reading the paper, writing their book, blog, or looking at their tie with their eyes closed. Who cares if the guy next to you has some light tunes paying in their ears as long as they are present and doing their job.

Couldn't agree more, thanks for bringing some perspective to this thread.

It's commonly found on older, jaded men in order to keep their cellphones on their person because they refuse to put cellphones in their pockets. Mostly paired with douchedom such as in ear Bluetooth in order to give the appearance of being important but appearing impotent along with mom jeans and white tube socks with New Balance shoes.
These accessories are used to repel women.
Some common phrases used by these "seasoned aviation professionals" are.... "Something something something whipper snapper."
"Get off my lawn."
And my personal favorite ....."Back in my day, we never went to the bar to meet women, we went to the kitchen!"

Let's say the discussion changed from using my Bluetooth enabled music player to a plug and play CD player. The end result is still the same, no? Background classical music has proven to increase focus in high stress situations.
I am not in that part of the industry yet and I was asking for opinions from seasoned pilots, and to see what actually goes on. I wasn't going for the self incrimination factor or specifics. As an outsider, sometimes it's difficult to see which regulations matter and which ones are overlooked. From what I've experienced in the 135 world, this seems to happen more often then not. That doesn't make it the right thing to do, but it's a fact. This thread seems to have struck a nerve with a lot of people and frankly I'm surprised at the level of sass and attitude from many of the replies to a simple question.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the FAR "prohibit flightcrew members in operations under part 121 from using a personal wireless communications device or laptop computer for personal use while at their duty station on the flight deck while the aircraft is being operated."

And again, this question wasn't in reference to critical phases of flight or during high workload situations. I was simply talking about cruise.
