I just threw up in my mouth. While I think a degree is important. I think not going to one of the aviation mills is importanter.

I'm late 20s...
House is paid for. Second home is halfway paid for and is used as a rental. Looking at a third here soon if I can find a good deal.
No school debt. 1 car payment, other is paid off. Mortgage on a second home that I make double the amount in rental income each month. 3 classes away from a 2 year degree which I've been working on for far too long. And right now I'm helping put my wife through school so we can remain debt free. The money I've saved not spending on my education over the years has been put into my RothIRA, 401K, real estate, and other investments. I don't want to work past 55 or 60. And I'm well on my way to that goal without my college degree.

I've inherited some things when my dad passed. But I paid for most of my flight training and my almost 2 years of college out of my own pocket. I owned a jewelry business that I bought into when I was younger. I was the only partner that was smart with my money and I slowly bought the others out. I had 2 store fronts. I sold them and went to flight school. I've never had less than 2 jobs my whole life and I work my butt off. I've always had a knack for turning hobbies into income, which is a blessing (a big one at times) and a curse. I've also got a knack for real estate in my area and I've made some financial decisions there that have paid off very well. Call bull all you want. All that's been given to me was a house (which is a huge blessing). But I've worked my tail off since I was 14 years old.

Yeah like I said, a house I inherited. Everything else I have worked hard for. And overall, inheriting a house really just decreased my monthly bills a little bit and helped me build equity and wealth. It hasn't impacted the pace at which I work or save money.

If I were you?
You should have invested that capital elsewhere...
But I understand... flying is an addiction.

The single best skills a pilot could have are networking, and general people skills. I have neither, but I do have a bachelors. The networkers and people persons will make it to a major before I do. Everybody just needs to stack the odds in their favor with what they have and can aquire. This goes for anything in life. Captain obvious...

Went to a local college got a 4 year degree for 30,000, 70000 if you include flight training on the side. I'm with a major now and able to pay it off with 2nd year pay. Best decision I've ever made. A degree may be expensive but it got me the job and have many more years to save up.

The difference here is the first guy in 2 years will be a 4000+ hrs 121 guy at a regional still while the second guy 2 years from now will be a 2000+ hr 121 guy at a major. Although I'd never recommend anyone to go to ERAU. Go to a local college and get a degree in something you could use as a plan B
