Forget the "flow through". I have seen many over the years and the airline always has a trick up their sleeve before the flow occurs. I'm not thinking that will necessarily happen in the future because the market has changed. Flows are now used as a recruiting tool, to pay less, and to keep guys at the regional longer.

i recommend getting the 4 year degree and getting it at a reputable university. I would stay clear of aviation degrees and online degrees. I am a big fan of online courses but not degrees.

There are many out there who have gotten advanced degrees, MBAs and JDs (law school degrees) while flying and at top universities.

Go to Skywest and get based in Chicago or MSP. Bid the standup trips where you show at 8pm, fly to somewhere 30 minutes to 1 hour away, then fly back early morning. You get about 6 hours at the hotel but are back between 6:30 and 8 am. You then have all day to study or go to class. Also you should take 2 to 3 classes in the summer to cut down you load in the regular school year. There are a lot of good schools in Chicago, Depaul, U of I Chicago, Northwestern, etc. and also in MSP.

Currently, Skywest is the place to go for almost anyone. Bases all over and growing. Lots of planes on order and the airlines are giving them flying because the others can't handle it.

So to answer the OPs question, NO. You do not need a 4 year degree to get hired at any of the 3 AAG WO regionals. And apparently Delta just recently picked up someone who did not have her 4 year degree. That of course does not make it the norm, far from it.

Delta hired a girl who didn't meet the rest of their competitive requirements? Shocking.

The point being that I think the legacies will be less and less concerned with a 4 year degree going forward. That isn't to say not getting one isn't a gamble. Because everyone would agree that it would certainly help your chances rather than hurt them like not having a degree would. That being said, I don't think any amount of debt is worth pursuing flying as a career. I'm completely debt free and I still question it from time to time.

Back on topic.....Most people at Envoy have a 4 year degree but it was never a "requirement" to get hired.

If everyone has a 4 year degree, the value of having one is greatly decreased, but not having one becomes even a bigger problem. Maybe I am a selfish bastard, but I'd rather fewer people have them. We are afterall professionals, in a profession. It is only suiting to have a bachelors at a minimum.

Having a 4 year degree has absolutely nothing to do with being, "professionals in a profession". Some of the best pilots I've flown with had no degree. While many of the new FOs fresh out of college have some of the least professional attitudes I've ever seen or worked around.

I hope they are paying you well to do this online recruitment stuff. Riddled with inaccuracies by the way. Total hogwash.
