Call me anything you want but never a outliers. What a joke, did you ever think about the four years of seniority you lost going to college. But who am I. Just a captain who was smart enough not to listen to some one like you.

So... you're telling me I could have gotten hired at Delta at 21 instead of 25 had I forgone the degree?

I could have been "a outliers," too!

Well aren't you an inspiration to those who can't hack a simple 4 year degree... And for those that want to use raising a family as an excuse- I knocked mine out before the age of 22, WITH a kid, and wife, away from parents, with a full time job, and paying for my own flying. I did it because my desired "Air Line" required it. This discussion is repulsive. I'm sure management loves your kind, it shows this is not a special skilled job.

Ugh....tired

He didn't call you an outlier, and even if he did, it wasn't an insult. That's why these discussions are noxious....it's not a personal attack. The discussion is binary.

Does a degree assist you in being hired by a major? Unquestionably, YES.

Does NOT having a degree make it more difficult to be hired? Unquestionably, YES.

Is anyone saying you are not a professional aviator for not having one.....NO, they are not.

Another professional pilot attribute, thick skin and the ability to rationalize unemotionally about discussion topics.

Look I never said you don't need one , just it can and does happen. We fly airplanes .The airplane doesnt know if you have a degree or not.it's a professional job.The best job in the world .But It's not open hart surgery. Like it or not some airlines require a 4 year degree , some don't. Why do you think they went from require to preferred, so they can hire who ever they want, so go tell them there wrong and how unprofessional they are. regionals required them, now they don't. As for thin skin I thought all will realize I was joking. After some of the comments. I don't think I would enjoy flying with some of you. Good luck I am done

How is it that someone with such poor grammar, punctuation, run-on's leading to frag, and overall delivery - is able to criticize the same?

Clearly you found your degree in a cracker jack box, because - according to you - your "Air Line" required "it"?

Look, I get that some of you here wish to tout a college degree. But, please, at least reflect that you have such a degree.

Dis guy above named "swamp" seems like he got his degree out of a swamp... it... on.. because. /s

Edit: BTW, Flying an aircraft is not specialized. It is... can... and will be.. fully automated. Don't flatter yourself, "swamp".

Please enlighten us JB22 as to what the inaccuracies are and where the hogwash is. What could be an easier way to get a degree and to fly then what i stated. I got a JD while the bottom captain at an airline and had to scramble like crazy. I wish I had standup like Skywest has, I would have made all my classes.

Please outline the better plan.

Thanks.

I totally agree on having somone besides me with experince in hours vs a degree. Its required unofficially because you're being hired by HR, someone that is not a pilot and has no idea about the intangibles of being a pilot.
