All great points. Keep in mind, the TAF prior to departure wasn't even calling for VCTS until after 2000z (1500L, nearly 3.5 hours after ETA) with a 30% probability of 3SM -TSRA @ 2100Z.

Obviously the CA/FO saw something other than the TAF to force dispatch to include an alternate. Some new CA's might have not even considered it based on the above TAF.

I am more of a data guy and in no way will Monday morning QB (Pro or Con) the decision(s) of the crew as I was not there and do not have all the facts.

But as someone said upthread, bottom line, everyone got on the ground safe.

Be careful out there folks. It's T-Storm season! They pop up fast.

Since I'm a sky gawd, I would've done it all differently.

They didn't sign anything for FSM, it was added enroute by the dispatcher.

Why are people even still talking about this?

I don't have to keep trying, I know the details, you don't. Are you a drooling idiot just like in your avatar?

People will continue to talk about this as long as people continue to make stupid comments

There's some serious macho and invulnerability going on here. People need to take a step back, learn from this, and realize it could happen to them.

None of you are such BAMF that you can escape a twist of fate. Count yourselves lucky, and I feel very disappointed that people can't see this situation over their ego and their need to be "right".

Well said (for the most part....)

For the new CA's..

Any "Old man" that tells you that you are not a "great pilot" based on your inexperience... is just another old man that needs to retire.

Any "Old Man" willing to teach, cherish that....

Fly Safe! Fly Long!
