Question Questions about SkyWest "Recriutment Event" Process

I've been following some of the posts, here, about SkyWest, and it sounds like they won't budge on the 100 hrs of multi, even if you are high total time, but how about the instrument time?

I am a CFI in the Phoenix area (very tough to get "actual" around here). SKW is in town on 3/15, for a "recruiting event". I should have 100 hrs of multi, by then. I have right at 100 hours of simulated instrument time, but 45 hrs of this is in simulators. According to the web-site, they only allow a max of 20 hrs in the sim, out of the required 100. Does anyone know if they will be flexible on this? I have 2200 total, and am a "Gold Seal" CFI, and shold have the ATP written completed by then, as well.

Also, are they interviewing on the spot at these things?, or extending an offer to interview at a late date?

Should I go, or am I wasting my time and/or risking being told to come back in 6-months, by showing up ith anything less than the posted minimums....

Any feedback from anyone who has attended one of these things is appreciated.

My understanding is that you need the 100 instrument (actual)

Are you sure it was 100 actual? I thought it was 100 Instrument Airplane.

idk if this will help, but it's 100 instrument, with the 20 or 25 hours of hood time you mentioned, and they count any class c or d sim you have. So hopefully the sim time you have that you speak of is along these lines. I believe it is worth it for you to go to the group interview, because I don't believe the reapply in six months applies to the group interview. BUT I could be wrong about that.

Incorrect. You have to have 100 inst time. 20 hours in sim can be counted towards this. But the rest can be hood or actual.

they are sticklers on the hours. They even removed 15 hours from a friend of mines multi that they were sharing because they were both mei's and doing the safety pilot thing to build hood and multi. It wont hurt to go and see whats up. They don't interview you on the spot though. they set up a time for later.

They were at SEA yesterday. Only 15 people showed up. They are holding strong on 100/1000. They said that it is hard for some people to get actual and they take that into account. Get 100 instrument (20 sim max, the other can be sim or actual) of course more actual the better.
The six months is from the end of the SLC interview. When I was in PDX in November they said it you don't get the job the first time try again and again but yesterday they sadi you only get 2 chances.

Go to it... when I went in Chicago there were people that showed up just because they were interested. You watch a video, answer some basic HR questions and then schedule you for an interview after that. At least it shows you are interested.

Correct you only get 2 chances. same once you are hired believe. They will get rid of you if you cant pass initial, and they can get rid of you if you dont pass upgrade. As in no second chances for upgrade.

Unless it has changed in the last week or two, you can interview more than twice (I'm not sure why you would, it would probably be better to find another opportunity at that point).

All airlines fire new hires who cannot complete intial training, most give you multiple shots and re-training, including skywest. They are no different in that regard, but they will woork with if you have a good attitude. Some airlines will, some won't. SKW has a very low attrition rate because the interview/sim are pretty thorough.

Skywest is unusual in that if you fail three parts of your upgrade training, they can theoretically terminate you. This is extremely rare however, they will bend over backward to get you through and the very few cases where this has ever happened were known attitude problems. The downside of this is that it is theoretically possible that you could **** off the wrong person at some point, fail upgrade, and get fired. I don't know of anyone this has happened to, nor have I heard of any specific individuals, so I consider this scenario not plausible. SKW has heavily standardized their check-rides so it's pretty hard for somebody to fail you out of spite...they would have to explain why they asked the gal/hour flow rate of the aft lav sink in the first place

Most airlines allow you to go back to FO if you fail upgrade once. But fail twice, and your job is up in the air at most companies.

in my group interview, the 100 hours instrument was paramount. The interviewer specifically asked, "how much of that is simulated?"

I said, "none", thinking "in a simulator", not hood time. He then said that at least 100 hours had to be not hood time. Yes, I guess that includes some sims.

Anyhoo, we didn't really dwell on it. But 100 hours seemed to mean 100. I'd most DEFINATELY go to the job fair, if you're even semi-interested.
