Mesa upgrade time really 16 months?
The airline pilot central page for Mesa shows an upgrade time of 16 months. That's really incredible if true. What bases are that bad that nobody wants to fly captain out of?

I am not really sure if it would be any of the bases. I think it is more Mesa itself. The owner of Mesa has gotten enormously wealthy because of the peanuts the pilots are paid. Probably just a lack of pilots willing to stay. If you go or you are already there, good luck. If they buy Comair, I am quitting.

Some Captains are bailing out of the ERJ because it is going to MCO under the Freedom banner. IMHO some don't want to be associated with Freedom in any way. I also think that those that are bailing are concerned about commuting with a Freedom badge.

I asked a Mesa pilot the same thing and his response was:
"Upgrades are starting to go more junior now and that has to do with the fact that many MAPD grads don't meet [Captain] minimums yet. I'd say upgrade by seniority with the mins is around 2 years right now for jets as long as some of these jumior MAPD grads still can't claim a CA spot. If you don't hold the mins probably add another year before upgrade. This is of course subject to change again, but anywhere from 2-4 years I'd guess right now depending your total, PIC, counting 1/2 of the SIC etc."
