Fighters. I have my ATP written done, just need the practical. I've got that lined up at a "reasonable" cost, attempting to avoid payback contracts. Been there done that with USAF, bad decision, won't repeat...
Seems also that I'm one of only a couple people not using an obviously anonymous forum name so I'll probably re-attack later with a different username after I see what comes from this thread. So don't think I'm ungrateful if you don't see anything else from this account after this thread runs its course Great replies so far, need to PM a few people already, thx!

Short easy commute to LAX, which I believe is pretty junior at Compass. Get current with them, some 121 experience, and then get on with a Legacy. Southwest would probably be ideal for you. Their junior bases are out west and they love to hire military guys.

Are you out now and working as a contractor, or are you separating/retiring from AD or AFRES in the near future?
As has been said, the best commute from Vegas, if you are planning on staying there, is LAX. Something like 30 flights each way per day on numerous different airlines. Delta and United and SWA all have junior bases out in west coast land that will also be easy commutes (LAX, SFO, OAK, PHX).
Compass has an LAX junior base if you plan on going to the regionals to re-hack your currency. Although SkyWest obviously has a large west coast footprint, their junior bases are in the midwest. Horizon's junior base changes, but when I was looking last year it was MFR which was not an easy commute.

As long as you get into a regional and pass your ride before the end of July, there will be no need to pay for a practical, and no training contracts required (unless you choose Mesa, they have a 1-yr training contract, but that is for ALL pilots, has nothing to do with the ATP).
OTOH, getting your practical done on your own obviously ends the stress, and removes the timeline for completion at a regional.
Now decide where you want to live, and commute 1-leg from there, or better yet, move to the base of a regional you really want to work for.

If you can get in a class at a regional sometime in Feb or early March you should be OK for getting it done by the end of July... But April, and especially May and later, you'd be really pushing things..

an active TS/SCI clearance would be very helpful if trying to get on with EG&G.
