Skywest

UPS pays us by seat and year. No differences pay. 727 Capt makes same as a 747 capt at year 10, etc. Same for F/O's. We came to a "blended" pay model that determined at a particular time the 'average' sized aircraft was around a 767 size, therefore we shot along the lines of everyone paid the same as the market for 767 crews. Not perfect, but folks certainly don't bid aircraft strictly for pay, people tend to bid seats for QOL.

Already happening. ASA gets kicked out of slc, and gets their 900's and a lot of their 700's taken away so skywest can fly them cheaper. I have said this all along, skywest is the whipsaw of asa. The only difference is management is doing it backwards. they started nonunion, brought in union guys, then beat them down.

Like mesa LOL? No, not like that. Normally you have a one year seat lock in any seat, after that you can do whatever you want, any aircraft, any seat (CA's can even bid back to FO if they want).
They will waive the one year for upgrade, ie a jet FO can upgrade to EMB CA as soon as he has the seniority (and flight time requirements).

So if I were to say head over there on the EMB or the CRJ i guess as soon as I could hold EMB CA there is no restrictions they just let you go back to training? Oh and how long are the EMB upgrades taking? Estimates on future upgrades?

6-8 months for EMB CA right now. It will probably vary between 4-12 months for a while, driven by movement into the jet.

hahaha,, everytime you talk you show how much you dont know. Those planes were going to ASA. Everyone at skywest knows that except you slappy, or you are just trying to hide that your GODSEND management are just whipsawing you all around. And you also took their 700's. So like i said, you guys are just around to beat down the asa pilot group. its been over 4 years for those guys to get a contract. i know all 4 of those years haven't been at skywest, but there is no end in sight for them.

??? This is all wrong...sounds like you're talking about 401k vesting?
I don't buy airline stock (I don't want another 911 to vaporize my job AND savings) but the stock option thing gives you a 15% discount off the lower of two stock prices during a six month period. You buy the stock, therefore you own it. You can sell it immediately or hang on to it or whatever.

This is kind of shady if you ask me, they paycheck deduct your predetermined amount and you can only access that money twice a year, purchasing stock. During that time skyw invests the money they are not paying you and makes the interest that you should be making. (just like uncle sammy does with income tax). Many companies allow you to purchase stock at a discount any time during the year, giving you full leverage of your hard earned money. Skyw management is smart, they play off our ignorance to make a little extra cash.
Skyw used to issue stock options (option to buy stock at a predetermined price on a specific date). I.e. you would get the option to buy say 100 shares at 19 dollars per share on a given date. So you sell the options for the difference of the current price vs. grant price and take the profit. (26.5-19=7.5 7.5*100=750$)
That is a thing of the past. You now get a set amount of shares that become yours on a given date, with the restriction that you are still employed with skyw. Point is, the new program dosent amount to much. Last person I talked to got something like 13 shares that become theirs if they are still employed at skywest in 2 or 3 years. This is suppose to reduce turnover.
Again this is off the top of my head, Im to lazy to look up the exact specifics.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a good thing, but many companies with "god sent" management are much more generous. I know jetblue gets options as soon as they finish training. Not sure about swa's options program, but I here it’s a huge part of the overall compensation.
