No, it's not right. I agree, and hope that it will change soon. However, things could be far far worse...some act like it's the end of the world. If such people would look around a bit maybe they'd realize that maybe life isn't so bad at all, and do something more about it than complain and act like life is miserable all the time. First year pay is rough, but could be worse...trust me.
Don't let it keep you pi$$ed off all the time. If you do, they've won.

I'm sick of hearing "thats not true, thats not true" argument about skywest. Lets hear some facts from your "agreement" (and these CAN & WILL be checked for accuracy).
What are your trip rigs, duty rigs? do you have mechanical pay, cancellation pay, junior-man pay, deadhead pay, taxi pay, customs pay, etc? Do you have trip touching drops for vacation? Retirement benefits??
Also, I'm curious...it seems the skypest people are very quick to throw out the "we get bonuses" excuse. Is there anyone out there who will willingly discuss what they received in bonuses for 2006?

Duty Rig: 1:2
Cancellation Pay: Full Pay, regardless of cause
Block Pay: Greatest of scheduled or actual
Junior-Man: 1.5 (But you can refuse junior manning)
Volunteer: 1.5 if you pick it up less than 10 days prior (someimes they raise this if they are in deep doo-doo)
Deadhead Pay: Full flight pay
Customs Pay?: If you were to incur fees of course they would pay for it.
Taxi Pay???: Do you mean taxi-cab? Yes they pay for that if you have to take one. Do you mean taxi to the runway? That is part of block time. Do you mean ground repo an aircraft? You get paid 0.3 or something like that.
Trip dropping: This is only applicable to hard-line bidding systems. SKW is PBS, all airlines will be in less than 5 years.
Retirement: No regional has an "A Plan". SKW has a 401k with a decent match (not spectacular...my wife gets 30%, but not in the airline business).
Bonuses: Operational (after 1 year), financial (after 2 years). These add significantly to your pay, I'll try to find exact numbers later.

Thank you Rickair7777 for helping making it easier for people who are trying to decide what place to go.
Trip rig: Time away from base for the trip divided by a number gives you your rig pay. So divide by like 4 and thats the min credit the trip should pay. I think you were referencing a min day credit?? Maybe not.
Taxi Pay: Yes, if you repo an aircraft are you compensated, sounds like it.
Bonuses: This is where I think a lot of people are confused in how this can effect your pay, at least I'm interested in hearing!

Not when we get all the growth and when upgrade is only a year and 1/2 for the jet and 6months for the emb.
Besides delta flies the 757 and 767 for the same rate and cal flies the 737s that have 100 to 170 seats in them for the same rate. So really whats 16 to 20 seats? Besides other than a few little things its the same airplane from the cockpit door forward.

Alright that is a little scary! It makes it right because you guys have all the growth and a 1.5 year upgrade. That sounds like Satan himself. MAybe if we offer 6 month upgrades and pay $15 an hour for CA's everyone will say that is right!

I'm not sure that's a trip "rig" per se, that's more of a daily pay/guarantee sorta thing while on company duty.
A trip rig is based upon your TAFB, ie a 3.5:1 trip rig applied to a 85 hour TAFB 4-day would equate to a minimum credit of 24:17.

Yeah! That way of thinking just blows my mind. Hey, I guess since from the cockpit door forward it's all the same why don't we just pay a 777 CA the same as a SAAB 340 CA????? Then managements will get even more bonuses. In fact, we could just lower prices some more and homeless people will be able to afford to take a trip somewhere.

It's not exactly a trip rig, but serves the same function: If the company leaves you in a hotel in Tulsa for 30 hours you still get paid something. I'm sure there are better trip rigs out there, but I was trying to explain exactly what you would get paid. In your example 4 calender days = 15 hours pay absolute minimum. It would be exceedingly rare for SKW to fly you less than 20-25 hours on a 4-day.
