Reserve life does suck because you dont know your schedule. There is a 2 hour call out meaning they call you at 12pm you have to report to the airport at 2pm for a 3pm flight (example). You are usually on reserve 5 days a week and get 2 days off. Once a month you bid for your GDO (golden days off) These are 4 consecutive days off that scheduling can not move. So a minimum of 10 days off a month for reserve. Reserve times start i think at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm and go usually to 12am. I live with two other guys up in the Smyrna/Vinings area and we will sometimes get the same days off to take advantage of our flight benefits. Crash pads are everywhere and once you get hired and in class someone there will show you where to look. A lot of married crewmembers live south of the airport in Peachtree City area and a lot of single crewmembers live in Smyrna/Vinings area (aka ASA North). Crashpads are like 125$-185$ a month and apartments vary. Mine is a 3 bedroom apt for 900$ a month (pretty nice too) I just pay 300$ for that.

Vacation depends on how long you have been here but i can tell you being here for 8 months i get 2 weeks off a year. I just broke mine up so i got a week here and a week there to spread it out.

Our benefits here are pretty good. They kick in right away i think or 30days (cant remember but it's quick) The 401k kicks in after a year. As far as flight benefits go to sum it up, as a crewmember you get unlimited flights on Delta or Delta Connection. Your parents fly free anywhere in the states and can travel international like 6 times i think in a year. We are part of CASS so that lets us ride on other airlines for free as well. (I use American a lot) umm you get 8 buddy passes a year to give out to friends too (they pay taxes) You also get a travel companion if you have a gf/bf (they pay a yield fare ticket so it varies where they are traveling from) ex. DFW-ATL is 30$ your travel companion pays.

I dont know anyone that commutes to KCLT but i know there is like 8-10 flights in and out of there a day. I just checked and it looks like it might be an ok commute. Not allowed to tell you the loads for security reasons...

Feel free to ask more questions....gives me something to do on my overnights...haha unless its a Reno overnight then my a$$ is at the casinos or ski slopes!
Fantastic Post!!!! much more refreshing than some I have read. A couple of follow-ups if possible..What is a typical crashpad like? Is your apartment furnished? Does that include utilities? I assume that wife and kids (living at home) have the same flight benefits as parents?? Thanks for checking CLT that gives me some hope for a commute. Thanks again for the post!!

How many aircraft are being used at LAX? Anyone have a clue about how long a new hire should expect to be able to be based there? Any plans to move more aircraft out that way? Thanks

H-Town is my old stomping grounds...actually Katy, TX. I think LAX is full right now. So i think you would be based in ATL. As far as that commute goes...I am doing the Dallas-ATL commute and it can be hard and I wish it was easier like the IAH-ATL commute...so it's not a bad commute. Honestly, being on reserve and commuting is a rough life. I would look into crashpads which include everything you need except food and bed sheets at most places.

I was so close to having to work a second job. I am not as lucky as some of these guys that their parents pay for everything. But i am getting by and it is rough. Some guys bid Nap reserve which is fly the last flight out and do a 4hr overnight and fly the first flight back in the morning then sleep for a few hours then go work at second job during the day and fly late that night. We have overnights all over Mexico. All the Carribbean flying are just turns...

Crashpads are all different. I have once lived in a crashpad with 11 other roommates in a tiny a$$ house. That sucked but was only 160$ furnished. Some crashpads you get your own room and only have 3 other people living in the house. My apt now is not furnished and that 300$ does not include utilities. Your family will fly free and actually..(little rusty on this) has a higher priority than your parents.

You press on the button "multi quote this message"! It's right between the "quote" button and the "quick reply" button. If you press it, it turns orange and then you can preyy another. If you have all you want, you click onto the normal "quote" button on the last post you'd like to quote and up comes your answer page with all the different quotes. Was that understandable???

8 months reserve and 2 hr call out.
