To answer a few questions from above.... Deadheading is flying as a passenger while on duty(getting paid) in uniform to get to another location. Lately, ASA has been deadheading us to SLC, LAX, CVG a lot to fly routes out of those bases.
Reserve life does suck because you dont know your schedule. There is a 2 hour call out meaning they call you at 12pm you have to report to the airport at 2pm for a 3pm flight (example). You are usually on reserve 5 days a week and get 2 days off. Once a month you bid for your GDO (golden days off) These are 4 consecutive days off that scheduling can not move. So a minimum of 10 days off a month for reserve. Reserve times start i think at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm and go usually to 12am. I live with two other guys up in the Smyrna/Vinings area and we will sometimes get the same days off to take advantage of our flight benefits. Crash pads are everywhere and once you get hired and in class someone there will show you where to look. A lot of married crewmembers live south of the airport in Peachtree City area and a lot of single crewmembers live in Smyrna/Vinings area (aka ASA North). Crashpads are like 125$-185$ a month and apartments vary. Mine is a 3 bedroom apt for 900$ a month (pretty nice too) I just pay 300$ for that.
Vacation depends on how long you have been here but i can tell you being here for 8 months i get 2 weeks off a year. I just broke mine up so i got a week here and a week there to spread it out.
Our benefits here are pretty good. They kick in right away i think or 30days (cant remember but it's quick) The 401k kicks in after a year. As far as flight benefits go to sum it up, as a crewmember you get unlimited flights on Delta or Delta Connection. Your parents fly free anywhere in the states and can travel international like 6 times i think in a year. We are part of CASS so that lets us ride on other airlines for free as well. (I use American a lot) umm you get 8 buddy passes a year to give out to friends too (they pay taxes) You also get a travel companion if you have a gf/bf (they pay a yield fare ticket so it varies where they are traveling from) ex. DFW-ATL is 30$ your travel companion pays.
I dont know anyone that commutes to KCLT but i know there is like 8-10 flights in and out of there a day. I just checked and it looks like it might be an ok commute. Not allowed to tell you the loads for security reasons...
Feel free to ask more questions....gives me something to do on my overnights...haha unless its a Reno overnight then my a$$ is at the casinos or ski slopes!

I plan on working there in the future. I will most likely be living in Houston or surrounding area for a few months, how would the commute be to ATL or LAX out of IAH or HOU while on reserve? Would it be logical to fly to the ATL or LAX knowing you're on call for the next few days and just sitting in a hotel in ATL or LAX? Any guys on reserve that commuted in here?

Thanks flyinhigh, my interview is in a week and I'm preparing myself as much as possible. While sitting on reserve do you know of anyone that tries to pull a second job, student teaching, sales or working at a bar? Second are there any overnights on trips that ASA have that are to the south out of the country, PR, MEX, JAM. and do you really rest on a overnight in these areas?

Fantastic Post!!!! much more refreshing than some I have read. A couple of follow-ups if possible..What is a typical crashpad like? Is your apartment furnished? Does that include utilities? I assume that wife and kids (living at home) have the same flight benefits as parents?? Thanks for checking CLT that gives me some hope for a commute. Thanks again for the post!!
